I'm in a book club through the library. Our group is pretty large so sometimes the book choice is dependent on how many copies the library can get. We sometimes vote on a genre and then the librarians will find a book that fits.

I just joined one! My first meeting is this week.. but the book we are reading is horrible and I can't get through it! ugh!

Anyways, I'm told at the beginning of the year, each person picks a month/book for that month. That months meeting is held at their house and they provide drinks/snacks. So my friend D picked the book we are reading, and on Wed we will go to her house and chat about it and drink wine.

I guess I should finish it! lol

I'm a member of a book club! Although really it's more of a wine club where we sometimes talk about books :) We just suggest books that we've heard of and wanted to read, and then narrow it down based on which book hasn't been read yet by anyone. We don't have any rules about the types of book we read.

We get together about once a month. No method to our book- picking madness - we just discuss and pick one at the end of our monthly get together.

Mrs. Wagon asked for some book recommendations (good recommendations btw!) and I noticed a couple people mentioned book clubs. I'm curious, how many of you are a member of a book club and how do you pick books?

I have a "book club" with two of my GFs from HS. Every year, around Christmas, we pick 4 books each. We have rules. The first year we took that BBC list of 100 books . . . yeah, that one, and we each crossed off what we had read, and each picked 4 from the remaining books. That year we read a book each month, and only one book each month (ie, if we finished march's book early, we waited until april to start the next). This year, we each picked 4 books again, one from 4 categories (Classic, book that a movie was based on, a favourite and a free pick). We weren't allowed to pick any books that another member had read, and this year we're starting the next book as soon as everyone has finished the current book, which works out to about a book a month.
