I hope the Janet Lansbury website is helpful. Here's a link to an article that specifically talks about indecisive toddlers: http://www.janetlansbury.com/2014/03/how-to-help-our-indecisive-toddlers-2/

I'm going to check out one of these books too! B is 20 months and the tantrums are getting ridiculous. He can keep screaming for an hour easy... I get judged if I give him what he wants, and I get judged if I stick to the rules and he keeps screaming :(

@joyfulkiwi, I was wondering about how you apply logic to toddlers! The answer: you don't :)

@mrs. blue, ahhh that's good to know. I got it from the library so I"ll probably read it, jot down some notes, and then I'll get the other one!

@blackbird: I'm right there with you. I loved the Love & Logic teaching book, and I bought the Parenting with Love & Logic and the early childhood version. Honestly, I think the regular one is more helpful than the early childhood one to really get the principles of it. Just FYI. If they have both at the library definitely at least skim the regular version to see which one looks like it will be the most helpful. The regular one is longer, but it seems to have more examples and you can also see examples of how it works all the way to adulthood.

@blackbird: I think Love & Logic works better with older children (the "logic" part gets tricky for the little toddlers). I'm with @Chuckles: and @scg00387: on Janet's website. She's also written a book and the philosophy RIE has books as well. I've found that approach works the best for me when my son gets revved up.

Ha, i'm glad we're all in the same boat. I know it's all normal behavior but I feel like if i can help mitigate some of it or at least UNDERSTAND, it'll help me feel less helpless.

Oh man! I'm so glad to hear this just seems to be the age and phase! We are almost 17 months and the whining and inability to communicate drives me nuts too! The constant up, no down, no up, no down. The whining. I think I'll have to get The Happiest Toddler On The Block pronto!

No recommendations, but I remember 16 motnhs well, she went from the happy go lucky kid at 15 months and switched at 16. We found it to be a phase, she grew out of it after awhile, but those few weeks were rough. We did everything you are doing too, thing that would work one time did not work the next, no fun!

I didn't even think to check out some books - great idea! DH and I are at wits end, and I am getting so frustrated with her behavior. I know it's normal, and I can understand that she must be frustrated - I just don't know how to help her without ruining her... haha!
@blackbird: These tantrums are ridiculous. We went through a 5 minute fit last night because she changed her mind a million times about which fork she wanted to use at dinner. How do I even react to that nonsense?!

Well I came across Jo Frost's Toddler Rules (supernanny), Logic and Logic Early Childhood and Happiest Toddler on the Block. I'm going to check them out from the library so that if they don't work for me, I am not out any money! They have pretty good reviews and they're on the best parenting list for early childhood so we'll see. My therapist always praises the Love and Logic ideals.

@emg86: haha, this too! I'm just 17 weeks, but ughhhhh, wine would be a very helpful remedy at the end of the day. if we have a third, they will certainly be spaced further apart. like, when #2 is a full-blown walking, talking, out-of-diapers kid.

We are in the same "sinking" boat!! B is also not verbal (well at least English- he does great in his own language) But the frustration level when we don't know what he wants or needs is pretty high! He spent almost a hour crying the other day because I didn't know what he wanted- its super frustrating! I am hopeful someone can recommend a book for us as well! Hang in there momma!!
