@Raindrop: we do eat with him but we're literally starting at infant level. He has had nothing but formula and milk prior to joining our family.

@MrsMccarthy: I am definitely interested in signing times as my son has a speech delay and of course doesn't speak English!

I second eating with him and wanna add disc one from the Baby Signing Time series to your list! We first got it from the library and although my son has never had feeding issues it always made him want to eat. I also like the touch and feel mealtime board books they have at Barnes and Noble.

Do you eat with him?

It made a big difference when we started eating the same food as him and he was eating with us.

I guess we were silly/dumb and we would watch him eat and that was why he wasn't eating as much. When he saw us eating the food he wanted to do the same as us! :)

@looch: Not more than I want :) I will take any suggestions. Feeding has been a very frustrating experience for all involved at my house so we are trying everything!

@mrsbee: thanks! Love the book suggestion and the videos!

This is probably more than you want, but it is some methods from our oral motor therapist:

1. Encourage him to touch the food to his tounge. He doesn't have to take a bite, he doesn't have to chew or swallow it, just touch it to his tongue. Make a huge deal about it when he does it. Tell everyone about it.

2. Go out to see people eating, look at menus, go to the grocery store and let him pick stuff out that he wants to try. He needs to see other people trying things and eating them.

I sort of remember one as a kid called "Gregory the Terrible Eater" about a billy goat who wanted good food instead of garbage. Not exactly educational but it was funny for me as a kid and I remember it made the healthy food look good.

As we wait for our EI evaluations to be finished, our pediatrician (specializing in adoption issues) have encouraged us to keep "trying" with feeding. We're trying a variety of purees, giving him many options, letting him play with his food, etc. etc. Our small achievement today was getting him to use a bottle trainer instead of his bottle. We're also in the midst of decreasing his bottles to create a sense of hunger (a method approved by our pediatrician)

One of the things the pediatrican suggested is to get some books about eating/mealtime to read to him. I've found "Mealtime" by Elizabeth Verdick, but does anyone have other suggestions?
