We like The Color Monster - its a beautful pop up book.
Honestly, I'm not sure if it helped much or not....but at 3 he is finally doing better at identifying his feelings.

https://www.amazon.com/Color-Monster-Pop-Up-Book-Feelings/dp/1454917296/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1507916094&sr=1-1&keywords=color+monster

We also have a baby faces book, and it shows different feelings. I will ask "one baby on this page is happy and one is sad...which one?" and he will identify the correct person based on their facial expression. The book was free, through the PJ Library program, but it looks like it is available on amazon too! https://www.amazon.com/Face-Book-Star-Bright-Books/dp/1595722858/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1507916377&sr=8-1&keywords=my+face+book

These flash cards are really simple and have helped expand my 2.5 year olds emotional vocabulary a lot. We spend tuns of time talking about the different cards. I make sure to follow his interest in them.

My SIL (a counselor) sent LO a board book called Making Faces. It taps into feelings at an age appropriate level, he’s 17 months. You could search for that book on Amazon and see what else might come up that is a similar topic.

Yeah 2.5 seems a wee bit young. So my son just turned 3 and its only been in the last few weeks he's been able to express his feelings more. I would say in the last month or two he's been saying things like

"I'm so so sad."
"I'm not playing with you no more Mommy!"
"You're (not) my best friend." (Being lovey or angry in context).
"I'm good." (As in I'm fine.)
"Leave me 'lone~!"
"I love youuuuu."

We're also able to stop him mid tantrum more and say "What's wrong? Tell Mommy. Use your words. Why are you upset?" And he will say things like:

"Because....Daddy no share the cookie."

And I'll say "Daddy didn't share the cookie? Did that make you sad/angry/frustrated?"

"YEAH!"

"I'm sorry, I know that is hard."

By sorta suggesting feelings, it teaches him in context what that emotion is called. I don't use "frustrated" that often because its hard for him to pronounce, but we say things like "mad" or "upset."

We also try to put a word to the feeling by acting it out ourselves or exaggerating our reactions. Like "Grrr, baby dropped the milk on the floor. Mommy is upset. Look at all the mess!" "GASP! You made that picture for ME!? Mommy is SOOOOOO happy!"

We have the Boynton book and its good if you can act it out, but for some reason my kid isn't that into it. We HAVE liked Here Comes Destructosaurus! and No Fits Nelson.

@MrsBucky: totally normal to just be learning them now! My son’s preschool class has a chart that shows various emotions so I think it’s something they learn a lot about in that 2-4 year old window!

@MrsBucky: Maybe that will come with time then. I can’t remember what age he was when he could do this but we started asking LO his characters in his books, shows were feeling at times. Oh I just remembered we have a Sandra Boynton board book that is cute with emotions. I think it’s Happy Hippo, Angry Duck?

Daniel Tiger has been so helpful for us. There are books that correspond with the episodes and they have an app with all the little songs that go along with the various lessons. My LO will be 3.5 at the end of the month and we still reference them all the time. And he loves rereading the books over and over.

ETA this will give you a different feeling or situation in each book. You may be looking for something that offers all the feelings in one place though!

My son is 2.5 and we are trying hard to reflect his feelings when he is upset. But if we say “it seems like you’re upset/frustrated/angry/ don’t like that” he gets upset and screams “I’m not ______ I’m happy!!!” While throwing a fit. If we ask how he is feeling, he says he has no feelings. I get it, he is two. But I’m wondering if reading a book describing different kinds of feelings would be helpful (he LOVES books). Any ideas?
