@looch: 3D puzzles sound cool!

@rattles: This is very helpful. The First Big Book of Space sounds great! That discovery space center is awesome. Will have to add that to the list for her next birthday. Has L seen the Bubble Guppies episode called "The Moon Rocks!"? M loves that one! If you have Amazon Prime you can get it free through Prime video :)

@sorrycharlie: That looks really cool--thanks!

@.twist.: Those are great! Will definitely show them to M :)

Well, they aren't books, but short, educational videos on youtube by STORYBOTS. They do a mini series on the planets and it is fantastic and I actually dig the little songs. L loves them. I'll link a few below:

My 2.5 year old has been obsessed with outer space for months now! They should be friends :wink: Most of these aren't solar system specific, but maybe they'll be good nonetheless. National Geographic has one by Catherine Hughes called the Little Kids First Big Book of Space that is probably just what you're looking for. If astronaut books are an option, check out Mark Kelly's Moustronaut. It's perfect for their age. Others that are age appropriate picture books are Byron Barton's I Want to Be an Astronaut, Sam Garton's Otter in Space, Tony Mitton's Roaring Rockets and Faith McNulty's If You Decide to Go to the Moon. I also want to check out Lynn Wilson's What's Out There: A Book about Space.

Other non-book ideas: There's a good Little Einstein's episode on outer space on Netflix. Melissa and Doug has a great solar system floor puzzle, but it's probably too advanced. Also, L's big gift from my parents for her 3rd birthday is going to be the Hape Discovery Space Center, which might be an idea if M's interest grows. It's like a space center doll house.

Not a book, but I love the Uncle Milton Moon in My Room light.

I tend to like tactical things for kids at this age as a tie in to books. As an example, my son brought home a book about the Statue of Liberty from the library and I got him a 3D puzzle to complete.

@regberadaisy: Good idea! I'll check out their website and see if they have anything.

@JennyPenny: Ooh my DH would love that! Thanks :)

@yin: I used to love Magic School Bus. Might be a little over her head now but I'll definitely keep it in mind for the future!

We have a few books about the solar system -- Cat in the Hat, Magic School Bus and another that I found at a garage sale. The Cat in the Hat one is more suitable for a 2 year old but might be a little wordy/long.

I know this isn't really what you asked for - but we really enjoy this book with our LO. It's about Neil Armstrong and how he wanted to go to the moon and worked really hard to get there. http://www.amazon.com/Want-Go-Moon-Tom-Saunders/dp/1897476566

LO has recently started expressing an interest in things in the sky (the sun, moon, stars, clouds). I think she'd really enjoy some books about the solar system. Does anyone have any recommendations? She's only 2 so I'm thinking something like board books or basic activity books. Thanks!
