I'm so sorry for this loss. My father died last year, and while I am heartbroken that they never had time for much of a relationship, I'm glad to at least have been spared this.

My poor kiddos have had a lot of loss in their lives. We have had four family funerals in three years and they were for people they were close too. I think beyond books it was just answering their questions. They will stop asking when their mind is satisfied. Even at four they do understand quite a bit. We used our kids story bibles also (don't know if there is any religious backgrounds) but we had stories about Jesus and heaven and we used that to explain death. Now our dog is sick, yesterday my son 3.5 year old son said "when bailey dies will he go to heaven with Uncle Bob." I said yes and then he said "oh good I bet uncle bob will pet him a lot and feed him pancakes."

A little one dear to me is about to lose her grandfather in the next few days and it is going to be really hard. She will be 4 at the end of the summer, she has dealt with loss of pets before but never people. Does anyone have any book recommendations for this age group?

I have used the workbook "When Someone Very Special Dies" with a 6 year old before and I might order that for them although the age suggestion is 6-12 on that one. I think some of the wording could be helpful for her mom though.

I personally don't care for "When Dinosaurs Die" because I am a pretty big believer in only offering as much info as a kid needs and that one covers way more than a four year old will ever question at once.

If you have any other resource suggestions I would appreciate it! Thank you!
