I second @cmomma17 suggestion - I was going to recommend My New Baby. The big sib is always smiling, even when asking why the baby is always crying. (You could also say something else for that page.) The words and illustrations are simple, good for a young toddler. It shows Daddy being involved which many new baby books do not. And it shows mommy breastfeeding. I had this book for my DS who was 22 mos when baby bro came.

The other book we liked was little critter, The New Baby - because it shows ideas of what you can do with a new baby (rock her to sleep, let her grab your nose, your friends will be jealous). But definitely My New Baby.

When my sister was born I was given "Little Mommy" by Sharon KRane. It's a sweet book about a little girl who takes care if her baby just like her mom takes care if her little sister.
The Berenstain Bear's New Baby is a sweet little book about how Brother Bear becomes a big brother.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: we have the same one! E loves it!

I actually think that line doesn't put the new baby down but helps a toddler understand a little more. DD has been "feeding" her baby doll play food but after a few times of reading the book, she'll pick up play food and ask, "baby?" And shake her head no. I would rather her know that new babies only drink milk. Also, as far as walking and talking, I know DS expected that his little sister could play when she was born so it was shocking to him that she wasn't ready to build blocks haha.

We have the same one @Bunnydragon mentioned, called "I am a big sister." It is great, except for a part that says:

"My baby is so little. Too little to talk. Too little to walk. Too little to eat pizza or apples or ice cream."

If you are okay with that, then I would recommend it! My LO loves even more now that LO is here and she can really identify with it.

(they are 19 months apart)

I found this book for my son. It was good enough that I gave it to my friend to read to her son when she was expecting a baby girl.
There is a "I'm a big sister" version from the same author. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0061900656/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1400303253&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40

This looks really cute! http://www.amazon.com/My-New-Baby-Rachel-Fuller/dp/1846432766/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1400262468&sr=8-1&keywords=books+about+new+babies

Any recommendations on books that will help prepare a toddler for a new baby? The simpler the better - LO is only 16 month now and will be 18 mo when new baby comes.

Things I would like to avoid:

Books that put the new baby down (babies can't do this! babies can't do that!)

Books that emphasize feelings of jealousy.

Really I would just like books that explain life with a new baby - show mom nursing, or baby sleeping or crying, that kind of thing.
