I haven't been either but have had many friends go for their honeymoons, and they all complained about how expensive everything was once they got there. They said the price of eating out was astronomical. They did say it was beautiful though so if you decide to go, enjoy it!

ooooh - i have always wanted to go there! tough decision... when we flew to New Zealand we were so close we were thinking about going, but it was too much $$ on top of the two weeks we were spending in NZ so we didn't do it.

if you have the time to fly that far & the money - go for it!

I've been to Tahiti, it is beautiful but very expensive when you get there. I'm not sure I would spend 10,000 for a week. The travel to get there is also a lot for one week. We stopped there on our way to New Zealand and spent about 5 days. We also traveled to Moorea, which is an island with black sand beaches. We just got back from St. John and I think the beaches there are just as nice. So to answer your question, is it worth it? For me 10,000 for one week is not. But if you have always wanted to go and want to get a trip in before kids, I would say do it.

I haven't been, but DH and I were seriously considering it for our honeymoon. We did quite a bit of research and it seemed that a lot of people were saying unless you were ridiculously wealthy and didn't mind spending money, you could get a similar experience somewhere else. It sounds like meals/drinks are craaaazy expensive (to be expected, I suppose) and you're kind of...stuck.

Again, if you have the cash to spare though (and if you can book out far enough to make sure you get one of the water bungalows!!!), I'd say go for it!

We did Bora Bora for 2 weeks for our honeymoon and it was beyond amazing and such a special place. There is so much to explore and our hotel offerred a shuttle boat to take us to different islands. The people are so kind and made us feel truly special (while laying out on the beach or pool, they would periodically come by with wet towels, drinks, sorbet, cookies). The water is so warm and calm. The snorkeling was amazing. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience.

As great as Hawaii is, it is a completely different experience. In Hawaii, you don't feel as if you're removed from civilization because there are people/tourists everywhere. Bora Bora was pure luxury and you feel like you're being pampered on your own little island. Hawaii is where we go with our kids, Bora Bora would be a great place to have your last no-kids hoorah.

We did 12 days in Fiji for our honeymoon for less than that (maybe 8k?), it was so worth it! We didn't do the bure's over the water, but we stayed at a great place right on the beach! http://www.paradiseinfiji.com/

For our first anniversary we did a cruise, it was a really nice way to celebrate pre-kids and cost far less!

I haven't been there but given what you've said and assuming you can afford it without having to go without anything else, I would definitely go. With expensive things I weigh up the opportunity cost associated with doing it and then make a decision. We spent ALOT (~£15K) on travel last year, but we figured it would be our last before TTC.

I've never been but it looks amazing. I have a friend who did her honeymoon there and loved it, but I think they may have gotten a little bit bored by the end, since there isn't a lot to do besides relax (not a bad thing!) The problem with Bora Bora, I think, is that it's really expensive to get there AND it's expensive while you are there-- where someplace like Hawaii is less $$ to get there, but expensive while you are there, or Bali was a lot to get there, but you could find cheaper deals once you were there. But neither of them have over water bungalows!

If it matters, we did Bali for almost 2 weeks for about that price and had an AMAZING time, for our honeymoon. But no bungalows.

I personally probably wouldn't do it...while the beaches look amazing, and the over the water bungalows look incredible, I personally feel like I could get a very similar experience in the Caribbean or even Hawaii, or somewhere in South America, without taking a 20something hour flight and paying a ton. However, I haven't been there, so I can't really speak from first hand experience! I'm sure it would be an amazing trip!

Ooohhh...I will be awaiting responses with bated breath. We've been trying to decide if its worth it, too. Always wanted to stay in an over water bungalow.

DH and I are planning one big last trip before kids, for our 1 year anniversary this October. Tahiti/Bora Bora have always been a dream of ours. Iv talked to a few travel agents, and for a week long trip it will cost over 10k. So... if you have been there, was it worth it? I keep telling myself its a once in a lifetime vacation, and what better time to do it than now. :)
