@rahlyrah: I was trial and error unfortunately. I found that the standard ones worked best for me, but my BFF had to order a size bigger. If it doesn't feel comfortable when you first try, then see if a different size feels better!

I'm also borrowing a pump in style from a friend, and just ordered an accessory set and set of tubing from Amazon. For some reason it was cheaper to order these two sets separately than the whole "replacement parts" set. I'm just hoping I got everything I need!

I use Dr. Brown bottles with my Medela. Works just fine - but you will need caps.

@rahlyrah: Medela comes with standard 24mm and Ameda comes with standard 25mm.

@2PeasinaPod: This may be a stupid question...but how do I know what size breast shield to buy?

@rahlyrah: I know with Ameda Dr Brown bottles work just fine. Just make sure you have caps for the bottles. I believe I've read on the boards they do for Medela as well but someone who uses Medela might give you better advice.

@regberadaisy: I registered for Dr. Browns bottles. Can I use them or do I have to buy Medela bottles?

I used a pump from a friend for a while until I ended up getting one free through insurance. When I was using hers I just bought new tubing... everything else I just sanitized her stuff that she gave me.

Tubing and the breast shields for sure. I reused everything else a friend gave me with her pump! I just boiled them to sterilize.

Breastshields, connectors, valves, membranes and tubing. And new bottles of course.

Basically anything that touches your body and the milk will pass through. I don't know about Medela but with Ameda the accessory kit was like $25 I think?

I borrowed a Medela Pump in Style breast pump from a good friend. I know it is frowned upon by the CDC but I know her well and trust her and it saves us a lot of money.

What parts should I buy to replace hers? Tubing for sure, right? What else?
