@SugarplumsMom: yah, I might also respond and just ask her if getting it to her on my first day back is acceptable to her.
@mrbee: it usually takes me about an hour to do it, and with being gone for almost four months I wonder if it will take longer because I'll need to catch up on what I've missed and which stores need me when.

I think I'm just going to respond that I will have it to her BY my first day back, and also use it to segue into the flex time convo. Wish me luck!

@MamaMagpie: gotcha - I'd work in the flex time conversation and get it back to her on your first day unless there is some reason she must have it sooner.

It is FMLA still, and I doubt she was even thinking about having me be compensated...
@yoursilverlining: that's a good point about just getting her the first week or so. And, no, it's totally not a big deal at all to do it but I'm just kind of bummed to have been asked...she has boundary issues (she's a workaholic and doesn't understand that her employees aren't and aren't expected to be by the rest of the company) and a big part of me is afraid she'll just keep asking for stuff before Thursday.
@Revel: definitely would be a good way to segue into that talk. I think I'll respond that I will get it to her by my first day back and ask her if she wants me to just make it the way I'd like it to be as far as the flex time goes, or if she'd like to discuss that first.
@MrsH: writing my monthly schedule is kind of like putting together a puzzle in that I oversee 14 cosmetics counters across two states, and have to work around all the retailer events as well as our branded events, so it takes some time to do. But you're right, it's not like she's asking me to "work" work...she probably doesn't think it's a big deal at all, which I guess it isn't really. I think it's just maybe more about not wanting to go back yet :-/
I re-read her email and she wrote that she wants it before my first day back.

How much time would it take? If it's not too much, I'd just do it and segue into flex time discussion if possible.

Such a poas! So sorry you have to worry about this during the holidays. Is it possible at all to send her all the info ON your first day back, just before you leave? That way you can work on it at work.

I'd also use it as a chance to talk about your flex time and am not sure how big of a task it is for you to give her your schedule. Doesn't actually seem like asking you to do work.

Could you just respond saying that here is my schedule for my first few days and Ill work on the rest of the month when I am actually back? I understand that she probably does need to know but I am sure she doesn't need a whole month right away.

I would use it as a segue into discussing the flex time - maybe offer to build the schedule with your flex time in mind or see if she would prefer to discuss it first?

If she asked you to have your calendar in by your first day, maybe she just wanted to make that task a priority for your first day back, and doesn't expect it before then. If she wanted it BEFORE, not by, your first day back, she could have said that. I would just do it your first day back.

Company policy re: work while on leave aside, I don't think this request is that big of a deal. It's just a schedule right?

I did some work while on leave - they asked me, stressed it was totally voluntary and said that (of course) I would be given extra PTO to take in place of any work I did while on leave. I found it actually really, really helpful to ease back into work that way, and it also let me extend my maternity leave by a few days. If you're already having a hard time thinking about going back to work, easing into it with some minor tasks might actually help, instead of hinder your return.

I would press her on the flex time thing though!!!

Ick. I'm sorry. I had to do some work on mat leave and my company said they would pay me for my time (it still sucks).

Is this just maternity leave or FMLA? If it is FMLA it could be illegal

And they have to pay you for it. If you are except they must pay you your full weeks salary.

Are they going to pay you for the time and does it affect your mat leave pay? If they'll pay you and it doesn't affect it, do it for the extra cash.

Or just don't respond and be like her :)

So, my boss just emailed me and asked me to have my January calendar/schedule to her by my first day back on 1/02.

I've had issues with her from time to time and honestly am having a hard time being objective...is this a normal/acceptable request from her? It's not a huge task at all, but I'm having a really hard time with going back to work and the last thing I want to do is take time away from my last few days with DS before going back.

Am I being silly? Should I say something to her or just suck it up and do it? She also hasn't responded to my request to discuss our company's flex-time for the first four weeks back from maternity leave...they leave it up to you and your direct boss to work out what your daily/weekly schedule will be like as you ease back in, and I'm worried she's going to just expect me to hit the ground running at full speed. Ugh she's difficult.

ETA: maybe this was her way of letting me decide and tell her what my flex-time will look like? She's so passive aggressive and indirect I never have any freaking clue what she actually wants, even when I ask her directly!
