Thanks all! I've decided to deliver at Beth Israel, and the most convenient OB is also the one my primary care doc used and loved, in Needham. Had to make the final decision today after graduating from my RE, appointments are now made  Thanks again!

Congratulations!! I see the same doctor as @mrs. wagon and I LOVE the entire practice, too. It's a 30-minute drive from home, but well worth it because I just love them. LO spent some time in the NICU at the Brigham too, and the doctors, nurses, LCs, social workers, and overall care we received was phenomenal. Good luck!

Not sure how convenient the location is for you, but I delivered at Mount Auburn and had a wonderful experience. I specifically wanted midwives and a med free birth of possible, and got exactly that. No fancy jacuzzi suites (at least not my room but they were crowded) but they had a tub for laboring that was good enough for me. All private rooms (most hospitals in boston are though). I am going back there for this baby even though the location isn't super convenient. Happy to answer any questions about them. A few other bees have delivered there as well.

I have heard a few less than stellar things about Boston Medical Center, and mixed reviews for MGH, though my friend who delivered there is going back for her second.

I was with Harvard Vanguard (Cambridge) and my doc delivered at Mt. Auburn. I had a fantastic experience, including a 13 day NICU stay with my son. My doc left the practice unfortunately so LO #2 will probably be delivered at with Newton Wellesley or BI. I'm switching to Harvard Vanguard Post Office Square because they have a high risk doc and they are super close to my office.

Loved Newton Wellesley! The quality of care was fantastic, and their recovery rooms seriously felt like staying in a hotel!

That being said, it might be a good idea to visit a few of your top choices - I know Newton Wellesley gives birthing area tours all the time, and checking things out will give you a feel for what's actually important to you.

It doesn't really sound like this is your thing but if you are on the more extreme natural side of the spectrum, Cambridge Health Alliance has The Birth Center with a team of midwives. It is in a house, where you birth in an actual bed or tub (or a bunch of other options) with minimal interventions and conveys generally the feeling of a home birth but in a safe setting. Plus it is right across the street from the hospital and is continuous with the hospital services without any sort of transfer of care. For me it's kind of the best of both worlds, super natural birth but with state of the art backup.

Probably too out of the way- but close friends have raved about Cambridge health alliance and their midwives! I saw them for the first 7.5 months of my first pregnancy but then we moved out of state... Have also heard great things about mount auburn and mgh!

Congrats! II went to the Harvard Vanguard midwives with my first and delivered at NWH. I had a pretty good experience overall but was very displeased with one of their hospital midwives. Since it is such a large group I didn't know any of the midwives there during my induction and delivery.
With my second I went with Women's Health Associates midwives in Wellesley. It is a much smaller group which I loved. I can't say anything about the hospital experience though because I didn't make it to NWH in time. I think both practices are great but I would choose WHA again.

Congrats! Probably not the best location for you, but I had a great experience with MGH (I used their midwives and delivered there two years ago, plus I will be back again for my current pregnancy). I also hear lots of great things about Mt Auburn.

@Eko: Makes sense. This is my first time so I suppose I'm not even sure what it is I'm looking for... I think I'm with you though, just a good doctor with good care is the end result I'm looking for. Thank you!

@mrs. wagon: Thank you! I will definitely look into them. Beth Israel has a new facility right in that location too, I think. It's about 35 min away from me but that's not terrible. Re: jacuzzi, it says on their website that each room has a private bath, but only some are jacuzzis. Guess that's definitely not reason enough to choose NW :silly:

I would absolutely recommend my OB practice New England OBGYN associates! They're located in Chestnut Hill right on Route 9 in that new mall with Wegman's. My OB Is Dr. Kolbas who I love love love but I've met them all and I really like everyone. They deliver at Brigham and Women's and I loved it there.

I have a friend who delivered at Newton Wellesley and she wasn't offered a jacuzzi...? Maybe it's only in certain rooms?

I delivered at Beth Israel and absolutely loved it. The staff and care there were absolutely amazing. I think it will depend on the type of delivery and care you want. I originally was a part of Harvard Vanguard and got really annoyed with them fast so I switched ob's. I personally don't love midwives or jacuzzis/baths, etc. I just wanted a good doctor with good care. A lot of people who love midwives love Mt. Auburn.

Hi!
I'm only 5 weeks, but need to decide on a hospital to deliver at and an OB once I leave my RE's care. We are lucky to live in an area with many top-notch hospitals and practitioners, but I'm overwhelmed with the choices.

I live in the burbs, south of the pike and west of 95, on the line of Norfolk and Middlesex counties. I work in Boston but DH would like to come with for a few visits, and he works in the other direction (west), plus I work from home 2 days/week. So close to home would be ideal.

Most of my friends delivered at Beth Israel and loved their experience. They also loved having mid-wives, which I know Harvard Vanguard has.

I am also drawn to the fact that Newton-Wellesley has "spacious suites with jacuzzis to aid in the birthing process"

Help! And thanks in advance!
