@Astro Bee: I think anywhere near the common would be great for you. Copley would be fine and there are plenty of restaurants and stuff near there.

One important thing to note is the St. Patrick's day parade is Sunday the 20th, so you will want to stay far away from the red line on the T- will be very very crowded with drunk 20 something's. Pretty much don't plan on taking the T at all on Sunday. You could definitely still walk to the children's museum though. Just something to consider.

@Astro Bee: for what you want to do, I think downtown would be better/closer. Overall, Boston is so small and walkable though it wouldn't be a big deal if you were in Copley.

@JoJoGirl: @SeptMomma12: @psw27: @catlady: @Foodnerd81: @MrsKoala: Thanks! DH is now suggesting that we go this coming weekend, since he has some leave to burn before the end of the month, so he can take 4-day weekend. His reasoning is that it would be less busy the weekend before Easter.

We will definitely go to the Children's Museum, and the New England Aquarium. We were also thinking of visiting the USS Constitution, Boston Common/Public Gardens, and various historical buildings like Trinity Church, Paul Revere House, among others.

Hotels in Boston are so expensive! But we want to be fairly central to things. Would Back Bay (Copley Square or SW corner of Public Gardens) be better than further downtown or Beacon Hill?

@Astro Bee: Yes, it's officially for kids "under 3" I think, so there are still a few toddlers roaming around - but plenty of fun stuff for babies, too. And yes - the only time so far we've been to the aquarium is when LO was 11 months and she had a BLAST!!! It's CRAZY expensive though, I think $35pp not including parking (which is about the same for a day).

Great suggestions! DS will only be 11.5 months, so he'll still get in for free at the children's museum. And some places accept our Canadian military ID, so maybe we'll get lucky! @Jojogirl: I'm glad to hear that there is an infant playroom. Our local children's museum doesn't have a whole lot to offer the under 2 set.

Good call on the aquarium suggestions, too, ladies! DH and I love them (we are scuba divers, so naturally!), and have taken DS with us when he was 2.5 mo and 6 mo, so I'm excited to see how he'll react this time!

Everything should be open and the weather should be decent! We love the children's museum and the aquarium.

I second the children's museum suggestion- c loved it at that age. It is pricy though, see if you can get passes for half price from a local library maybe? It's full price for ages one and up. I think most things will be open!

Yes! Everything should be open. The Children's Museum has an awesome infant room your LO would like (although it's pricey admission - check their website). If the weather's nice, go to the Boston Common and walk around, see if the swans are out yet. There's a zoo just outside of town too, Franklin Park Zoo.

We are thinking about driving down to Boston for Easter long weekend, and we are wondering if: a) it's a good idea, given that it's a holiday, and will stores/restaurants/locations be open that weekend? And b) what are things that we can do with a 12 month old in tow?

I've never been to Boston before, and it's been many years since DH has been.
