@yoursilverlining: @catlady: Yep, Gourmet Dumpling House and Dumpling Cafe are the best! I heard newcomer Szechuan's Dumpling in Arlington is supposed to be excellent, too. Mmm...today would be a great day for some XLB!

@Seattlemom: I agree with everything @hellobeeboston said about tapas. There is also a place called Casa B in Somerville which is supposed to be very good.

I've only been to Craigie on your list (which is outstanding) but all of those get rave reviews so I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. :)

@Seattlemom: I found this food tour that explores the historic neighborhoods of Beacon Hill and Back Bay. http://bostonfoodietours.com/foodtour/beacon-hillback-bay-tuesday-august-6th/ I  food tours because it's like having a realtor expert, historian, and food expert all in one. The company explores other neighborhoods too.

Oooh definitely Neptune Oyster. I also LOVE B&G Oyster in the South End, and Towne Stove & Spirits. If you go to B&G I highly recommend making reservations as it is tiny and it usually packed (especially in the winter when they have to close the patio down).

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: May will be beautiful! Way better than February haha. And I would say definitely stay close to where you plan to spend the most time, if possible. They do have a public transportation system in Boston, but I found it a little frustrating/slow (though to be fair, I'm used to the Subway which is a lot larger). Especially in May, when the weather will be nice, I would far prefer to walk anywhere I could vs. taking the T.

@MrsSCB: Ditto on Hungry Mother! This is one of my faaavorite restaurants. That catfish and ohhh their cornbread! Truly amazing. It's strange to see a southern restaurant up here in Boston, but they do it so elegantly.

@hellobeeboston: Yes for Duck Tours! Definitely something every tourist should experience! A great and very entertaining way to get to know the city.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: For chowder, Neptune Oyster is also gonna be the way to go. Fabulous chowder. For French, Gaslight is a really great restaurant with a cool bistro feel. Accessible by the Silver Line (buses) in the very cool South End of Boston. Steak frites and moules frites are fabulous, classic French dishes. Also the steak tartare, if you dare!

You've gotten so many great recommendations already I don't think I can add much!

I must second Neptune Oyster because it's amazing (and close to freedom trail if walking, in north end) just prepare to wait - no reservations and always packed.

I also second, tapeo, beehive is great for live music, very cool vibe.

If in Cambridge (Harvard square) so many great restaurant options but Alden + Harlow is newish and awesome.

Duck tours are really fun too!

I love walking the freedom trail. I also took a tour of Harvard last time I was there. They do a bunch every day (guided by students) and it's free. I love historical activities so I enjoyed the tour and then just wandering around Cambridge after. What month will you be there? I was there in February last year (and will be again this year) and it was freeeeezing so I didn't get to do quite as much of the outdoor stuff as I wanted. I hope it will be a little warmer this year!

Oooh and food-wise, we ate at the Hungry Mother and it was excellent!

PS: if the duck tours are happening while you're there, that is also a fun activity :-)

@ineebee: good stuff, we'll be able to whale watch

I went to a ramen place in DC and well I am not a fan of broth based soups & food. I like chowder!

My French food experience is probably very pedestrian as in quiche, croissants, charcuterie, and mussels. However, I am totally open to trying something new. What do you like best at your French restaurant?

Recently went to BarLola for tapas and the food and sangria were awesome! Definitely the freedom trail and Boston common.

I had a greaaat time at the Improv Asylum, though it's not a headliner or local comic.

It's also across the street from Neptune Oyster, mentioned above, which is THE place to go to for a lobster roll/seafood in general. It's a must for locals and tourists, doesn't take reservations, so try to go at an off-time. They're both in the North End neighborhood, which is our "little Italy." Pretty good eats, especially Mike's Pastry and Modern, both amazing Italian bakeries with legendary cannolis. Great for eating, or even just for walking around.

If you're coming in April or later, the whale watch that leaves from the aquarium is really great! http://www.bostonharborcruises.com/whale-watch/schedule-rates/

Is there any type of food that you're really into, or really interested in trying? French, seafood, tapas, ramen, soup dumplings...?

What are some nice night time bar-lounge type places? Live music, spoken word

What's your favorite Boston comedy club? Headliners or local comics

I've heard great things about the Daily Catch and Neptune Oyster for seafood (I haven't been yet but they are on my list to try). There are tons of great restaurants but some that I love are Sportello, Myers and Chang, Toro, and Figs.

Definitely do the Freedom Trail if you like history. If you like museums, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Isabella Stewart Gardiner Museum, and the many museums at Harvard are all very nice.
