They do have a public transportation system in Boston, but I found it a little frustrating/slow (though to be fair, I'm used to the Subway which is a lot larger). I also took a tour of Harvard last time I was there. They do a bunch every day (guided by students) and it's free. I love historical activities so I enjoyed the tour and then just wandering around Cambridge after. What month will you be there? I was there in February last year (and will be again this year) and it was freeeeezing so I didn't get to do quite as much of the outdoor stuff as I wanted. It's a must for locals and tourists, doesn't take reservations, so try to go at an off-time. They're both in the North End neighborhood, which is our "little Italy." Pretty good eats, especially Mike's Pastry and Modern, both amazing Italian bakeries with legendary cannolis. There are tons of great restaurants but some that I love are Sportello, Myers and Chang, Toro, and Figs. </p> <p>Definitely do the Freedom Trail if you like history.
