I've had a horrendous hair cut before. I didn't go back because the only thing to fix it would've been to cut off the length, and I did NOT want that. Basically I have long hair, asked for layers, and they gave me really short layers on top with long hair in the back - it was seriously like a long mullet. It was horrible. In your case, I would go back , it seems like and easy enough fix!

@Ree723: since it wasn't a "super expensive place," which in this case I am translating as "the nicest/ best place" I would personally go to a GREAT place and get it fixed!

I went back to get my hair redone (botched color and cut) and it turned out ok...I wouldn't say I liked it but it was ten times better than the original mess they left me with. They were really nice about it, but I never went back.

It's my sister, so if it wasn't what i liked I made it very clear and she fixed it. I think you go back and explain, this happens a lot (I used to be a receptionist at a hair salon) don't worry you aren't the first or the last ;)

i'm sorry, how disappointing! i bet you look great, but if it's that bad that you don't want to live with it, if you can maybe you could treat yourself to a fix at a different salon. maybe get a recommendation from a friend/coworker so you know the stylist is good, regardless of cost?

Not for a hair cut for for a hair style. My mom and I got our hair done someplace for my brother's wedding. I can't even describe what he did to my hair but it was awful. I came back to my mom almost in tears and told her we'd just have my aunt fix it. My mom said no and took me back to the guy. Apparently, he thought I was 13 and did my hair to reflect that. I was 20.

I would go back. Sorry it wasn't what you expected. I also find that bringing a picture in helps a lot. I recently found a new stylist (sort of) in a new country and my hair isn't as layers as I'd like nor thinned out but it's good enough. I could have went back but it wasn't a bad cut. Most new stylists that I go to is always conservative until I go a second time.

Oh good! It could be that your hair doesn't want to do what the style should do, too? I have wavy hair so sometimes mine misbehaves. I can't do a straight bob, for example. Glad you like it, though!

I went back and they fixed it! Well, sort of. It's still not exactly what I wanted but I couldn't be assed to try and explain again what I was looking for; also, with how short the front was initially cut, I don't think they could quite achieve what I wanted. Regardless, it is much closer to what I wanted and a thousand times better than it was!

I've got back and gotten it fixed by another hair stylist. But I totally peeped through the windows to make sure that the one who effed it up wasn't there XD

I've now found a stylist I LOVE and I don't go to anyone but her.

I've never actually done it, but been told by stylists that if I don't like something about my cut I can come back within 10 days to get it fixed and shouldn't suffer until my next cut.

About the flipping, was it your usual stylist? I've found that it can be a matter of your stylist knowing your hair texture and the direction your hair grows in, and cutting layers in a way that compensates for that.

I've had haircuts I didn't like but nothing that was so bad. I think you should call the stylist and ask what they think... I'm not sure if yours can be fixed since the cut is already short. Unless you will consider a pixie cut. Maybe they can straighten out the ends for you?

I just got my hair cut on Wednesday (it's Friday here now) and I hate it!! I wanted several inches cut off and for it to be majorly thinned out (it's so thick!) - essentially I wanted a chin length bob with some layers.

Well, the front of my hair is cut in a chin length bob and is fine, but the back is below the nape of my neck, just past the tops of my shoulders, and the layers are cut in a way that makes the underneath layers flip up, giving me a super awesome Mrs Brady look. NOT the look I was going for.

Now the haircut only cost $28, which is super cheap for here, but I really hate it and want it fixed! DH wants me to go back to the same salon and ask them to fix it, but I'm really nervous I'll insult them and then they'll botch my hair even more! Or I'm worried they'll tell me that I didn't explain my hair cut well enough and they gave me what I asked for, therefore they're under no obligation to fix it etc.

What do you do when your hair cut goes awry? How do you diplomatically ask for it to be fixed? Have you ever had a bad experience when you have gone to have it fixed and it ended up worse than before?

For reference, I've attached a pic of the Mrs Brady look (a la my hair now) and two pics of what I was going for. Note: I did not bring these pics in with me but will do so if I go to get it fixed today.
