I guess it would be the person that can medicate that should take over the parenting duty.

A pregnant person out of work because of exhaustion gets an automatic pass - how is this even a question for your husband?? I think your husband should have taken over because you always are the one who seems to be required to step up.

(not trying to be mean!)

I'm keeping my fingers crossed you don't catch the stomach virus your DH and LO had!! I had one at 36 weeks pregnant and it was seriously the most miserable I've ever felt!

My husband is the biggest baby in the world when he's sick so I would always take care of the kids in any situation where he doesn't feel well. This winter we had a stomach bug that started with him and DD throwing up one night and then being weak the next day. I had to clean up after both of them and tend to them while also nursing and taking care of DS who was 3 weeks old. Two days later I got sick but DS was still feeling weak so he couldn't/wouldn't watch the kids for more then 30 minutes at a time. I would have to literally go from throwing up to feeding our daughter because he was so tired. I was so mad that we clearly had the exact same thing at different stages and he wasn't supporting me 1/10th of what I had for him.

He's a great dad and husband when he's not sick, but man oh man I hate when he's sick!

@Mrs. Pen: @AggieDaze: I was person A. Full of cold, chest infection but genuinely not as ill as DH so I took care of LO.

I didn't mind - he was so weak still - but its so flipping typical, every time I am ill he comes down with something worse (genuinely, he is not faking). You'd think pregnant, anaemic, exhausted, full of cold and with a chest infection would guarantee me some rest!

I love that so many of you think pregnancy should equal a free pass! :silly: I wish it worked that way in my household! I'm about to go and bleach the bathroom to get rid of DH's germs.

Pregnant person always gets a pass.

DH and I both had a stomach virus last week, I worked from home and he took a sick day and cared for LO. But that was mostly because he was only a couple days back from paternity leave and therefore not hard up on any deadlines yet, whereas I was in crunch time on a project. I expect next time, it'll be me.

Obviously the non pregnant person, for god's sake. But also I'd be doing a highly abbreviated version of whatever parenting was called for. I'd be putting on tv and ordering pizza without thinking twice about it.

It would be a whole different question if I were pregnant! But in our current situation, I think we'd both kind of do it, but not well, if that makes sense! Like, he'd have canned soup for dinner, no bath, and a late bedtime, haha.

Hmmm that's a tough one. Typically, I'd say stomach virus beats out cold/fever virus because it's really hard to watch a toddler when you have to bolt to the bathroom at a seconds notice. Also, typically the cold viruses in our house don't come with high fevers and if you don't have proof (ie vomiting or a high temperature) than you better buck up.

In this instance, a pregnant sick person always wins out over a not pregnant sick person. I'm 38 weeks and my husband "doesn't feel good" ie. his throat hurts and he's tired... He is not getting any special treatment from me, that's for sure!!

Meanwhile, DH and I were both deathly ill one time when DS was an infant, and I had full on duty all day and night while he rested in bed. It sucked so bad I called my parents a state away to come help us.

It depends on how high the fever is for me. I'm such a bear when I get a high fever. I literally can't function. I haven't had a stomach virus in a long time though, so I can't speak to that. Also, the pregnant person should get a pass, especially if you are anemic!

@Anagram: hahaha when the noro virus went through our house last year we were supposed to host brunch. It was my husbands day to get up with our son and he wouldn't so I was ENRAGED. He is sooooo whiny when he is sick he is like the man who cried wolf. So anyway, after being a bitch all morning, my son thew up all over me and I realized I was in fact the worst.... and then 36 hours later I got my come-up-ance and was sick too. What a fun 72 hours that was!

This is like a brain teaser, haha. I think stomach viruses are the worst, but as this is day 2 and the worst is over and the other person has a current high temp, B has to do it.

In our house, it's whoever complains loudest. If we all have colds, DH is a bit of a baby who will try to ignore that I am also sick and will try to go lay in bed at like, 7 pm which is the busiest/most stressful time of our night when LO 1 has to have bath and bedtime routine, but LO 2 is in witching hour--and leave me to deal with both kids. So I tell him absolutely not and make him stay up till the kids were in bed.

On the other hand, once I got a stomach bug and was up for hours feeling sick and finally threw up at 3 in the morning. Right as I was falling asleep, LO 1 woke up and Dh was like, "I also don't feel good. Can you go get her?" And I was SO ENRAGED because I'd just thrown up and hadn't slept at all. So I like whisper shouted at him, and made him go--and I found out hours later (after sleeping) that he threw up on the way to her room, and then LO 1 threw up and he slept with her, both of them sick and then I knew I was the worst mother and spouse in the world. ;-)

ummm regardless of what person I was, I would take parenting duty b/c my husband is a baby. Last year the noro virus went through our house. Husband and baby had it sunday all day. I took care of the baby all day (obviously) and had to go to work Monday. Monday night I could tell that I was getting it, spent all night EXTREMELY sick, had to call out Tuesday and GUESS WHAT had to take care of the baby b/c husband was still "sick" three days later. Buck up daddy, can't just leave the kid in the crib b/c you'd rather nap. Not that I'm bitter or anything.... .and oh yeah, had to work Wednesday :P
