This is a tough question. We were nursing at wake up and bedtime and only doing straw cups during the day... but when we cut the bedtime feed, I pretty much had to replace it with a bottle. It's the only way DD will be okay without nursing *and* the only way I can get her to drink enough to keep her until morning. I'll deal with dropping the bottle later...

When we cut the morning nursing session next month, I plan to just offer a straw cup and breakfast right away.

@hilsy85: I'm not even sure it's the nursing he's attached to. Maybe in the morning. But in the evening, every now and then we give him bottles and he does ok. I think it's just the nighttime routine of laying back and filling his tummy that he's used to. But I think with a book and his paci we can work around that attachment. (Until it comes time to paci-wean, which will be in a few more months (ugh).)

I would probably do one transition at a time, especially if he is attached to nursing! Doing both might be tough on him? Maybe start with weaning, and then do bottle weaning once he's off the boob?

Ok, guys. D is 13 months now and I have been breastfeeding him since birth. I loved it but am now kiiiiind of over it. Right now I'm breastfeeding him first thing in the morning and at bedtime. We have dropped all bottles other than his lunchtime/prenap bottle. Otherwise he gets water throughout the day and with meals. His lunchtime bottle is 6oz. But I am ready to be done with breastfeeding and am wondering if we should do bottle weaning at the same time?

I am thinking transition to a straw cup for the morning - just give it to him in the morning while I finish getting ready (he eats breakfast at daycare). Send a straw up of milk to daycare for lunchtime. And then give him a straw cup of milk with dinner. Does that sound right?

I have NO idea how he's going to handle this. In the mornings when I get him up, he actually reaches for the glider. And he's been nursing for like 15-20 minutes lately, when it had been down to like 8-10 minutes. Oy. Any tips to ease the transition?
