@wrkbrk: my son figured out the Zoli around 7 months after a few weeks of trying. The straw is rubber and flexible like a bottle nipple, obviously just much smaller. What's nice about the zoli is tbat the bottom of the straw is weighted so it still works if you tilt it. I found that leaning my son back and positioning him like I would to give him a bottle helped him figure out her should suck on the thing in his mouth 😂

@LBee: Thanks for the link - I have tried literally 8 sippies but not this one. Ordered! Haha.

FWIW he has been on formula since 12 weeks and we will be switching to cow's milk in a couple weeks and I dont think he will have any issue with that as he is not picky and he is a good eater.

It's just the actual bottles that he loves and the cups that he hates ... sigh.

@Truth Bombs: How long do you think it should take til he understands a straw? We started with those but it was a big fat no. He is clueless as to how it works!

We phased it for a long time. Lo was combo fed, so still nursing but cut formula at 12 months so offered wcm in cups at mealtimes or in bottles (of either bm or wcm--not mixed) other times when she needed it to sleep/stop being crankypants. We took away bottles at 17 months, and I stopped nursing at 22 months (I'd already stopped pumping so my already-low supply was really low). The only one of those transitions that she really resisted was bottles--that was like 3 days of tantrums and tears.

I let DD keep her bottle for morning/night for maybe 2 weeks then just cut over to straw bottles.

@Truth Bombs: Wait what? D is almost 1??? That can't be possible.

To answer that question: we slowly dropped bottles, but at that point he was only on 3 bottles as he dropped them on his own. DS could not for the life of him figure out straw cups at first (I think he was dropping bottles because he really took to solids) - we finally struck gold with the below cup. We've since transitioned to take and toss, but this was his go to for months. I personally think that if you drop bottles that you need to go pretty quickly because I think hunger does play a small role in how well they take to cups / moving towards replacing those calories with real food. That's just my two cents.

ETA: He was exclusively on breastmilk. We just gave him straight up milk and/or water. It never crossed my mind to mix it.

Straw Cups have been an easier transition for both my kids so I would try those. Zoli is my favorite. I don't think it matters which you do first but I would do one things at a time. So 100% transition him from breast milk to cow's milk before you even try to get rid of the bottle (or vice versa, totally get off the bottle before you try to transition from breastmilk to cow's milk). My son is about a week away from his first bday and we're in the middle of transitioning to cows milk. I started when he was 11 months old because my pumping output was getting low. The first week we did 1 ounce cows milk to 3 ounces breastmilk, the 2nd week half and half, etc. He hasn't had an issue at all so you might be surprised at how easy it is.

Hello all!

DS turns one in 2 weeks  !

We are switching to cow's milk a week after his birthday (after our Thanksgiving travel because I just can't while we are on the road!).

What about his bottle? Should we take it away all in one fell swoop? Or should we phase it out, maybe letting him keep his nighttime and morning bottle but serving milk or water in a sippy cup the rest of the time?

The thing is, he pushes away every cup we have tried so far ...

What worked best for your LO?
