I've been formula-feeding DS from the very start, and to be honest, I don't feel guilty about it at all. It's been such a good experience for us, and even though there are some judgey people out there, I just don't care about their opinions. :)

I agree with the sentiment "Happy mother, happy baby," so if bottle-feeding is what works for you, keep on!

I have had very low supply from the very beginning, so we breastfeed and bottle feed. At each feeding session I let DD breastfeed from both sides, and then I top her off w/ formula, since my breastmilk isn't enough to fill her up. She really enjoys breastfeeding, but I'll probably switch over to exclusively formula once I go back to work. I definitely feel guilty about not being able to exclusively breastfeed, but I'm starting to get over it.

@zippylef: You are amazing. I just could not do it... and I owe a blog post on the subject, but it's a really hard and emotional one to talk about.

I just don't produce enough for her so we've been supplementing with formula since day 2.
I hope to create a stash for when I go back to work
But I honestly don't see it happening.

Some breast milk is better than none right?

@Mrs. Jacks: I'm currently relactating to try and feed LO after stopping for 4 weeks and it's a very long, hard process for sure.

We're bottle feeding exclusively. I had a little bit of frozen milk that was still good from Lala, but we only have about 20 oz left.

I wish I could breastfeed, but getting ready with an adopted infant is a cumbersome process that I just didn't have time and energy for.

I voted just breastfeeding, but when LO was born she started out with formula in the hospital, and then pumped breast milk when we got home until I got comfortable with breast feeding. we will start supplementing with formula to get her used to it when she is about to go to day care

I tried so hard to breastfeed but it just didn't work for us. I went through tons of mommy guilt, but lo is 9 months old and so happy and healthy. I know a good reason to breastfeed is to help their immune system, but my lo has only been sick once in 10 months, and that was just a teeny tiny cold. She's doing great on formula!

We started supplementing the first night home from the hospital (at 48hrs old). My nipples were cracked, bleeding and sore (sorry if TMI) and LO wouldn't stop crying. I called my OB and he told me to pump but my pump wasn't even out of the box so while DH frantically sterilized everything we gave LO some formula. She stopped crying, I stopped crying and we all got a little bit of sleep. From then on we would supplement if I was too sore to BF (we did mostly pumped BM but some formula too). DH loved that he got to be part of those early feedings and I, after getting over some serious guilt, liked that it too some pressure off of me.

We've been supplementing since birth and at this point, it's more accurate to say that she is supplemented with breast milk.

I had a hard time and a lot of guilt too but when her weight tanked and she started to get sick... formula was the right decision. If it's whats right for you and your LO, there is no need to feel guilty.

No shame in feeding your baby however it works best for your family! It is so hard to tell how much they eat while breastfeeding, along with all of the other breastfeeding challenges it can be extremely frustrating.

Definitely both! We started supplementing within 36 hours of birth, and loved being able to do either whenever it suits us, so we reinforce with a bottle of pumped milk every day whether it is needed or not.

It especially helped today when he went on a nursing strike since he has a sore mouth due to teething. Since he had done it once before a few weeks ago, I was able to handle it much better today. I nearly had a meltdown last time!

It seems like breastfeeding is pushed so hard, that you feel like a failure when you bottle feed. Is there any moms out there bottle feeding?! LO is 3 months old, and I have been breastfeeding mostly, but have been supplementing and bottle feeding too. I'm in the "in-between", and don't really fall into either category! What about you? Do you just breastfeed? Just bottle feed? Or do both?
