@gingerbebe: @Mrs. Goose: thanks for the reminder about faster flow nipples, I just ordered from Amazon.... not ready to drop ALL bottles yet!

@travellingbee: thanks for piping in, always helpful to hear from others currently going through the same thing! I'll have to have my caregivers try the dark room more often.

@Mrs. Goose: I *think* the recommendation is usually no MORE than 24oz of whole milk.

@DesertDreams88: you know L just turned a year and he's really cut back on his formula consumption. He'll only take a bottle right before a nap or bedtime and only in a dark room, haha. So at this point we're pretty much down to just 1 daytime bottle before his second nap and one at bedtime.

@DesertDreams88: you could try to see if it helps! I just did 4 ounce bottles with this guy. And he was still on the slowest nipple flow too. Sometimes when they get older they want to drink it after so that may be having an impact too? I know when I worked in the infant room at daycare we would change the nipple flow based on their age and feeding habits.

I'd definitely still be trying to get formula in at this age although I think that's a sort of personal decision because some people and doctors don't think it's necessary. At 11 months I think there's no way my ebf baby was drinking 16 ounces of milk a day. Now that I give her whole milk she has only about 8 ounces a day usually and she just drinks lots of water. That's her preference and she likes the milk warmed up too.

I share the same family doctor with the boy I take care of and his mum told me the other day that our doctor said that our kids should be drinking 24 ounces of milk a day right now. We were both shocked and it's impossible unless you have a milk guzzler who drinks a lot I feel.

My son barely took 2-3 ounces from his bottles at that point. I prepped 4oz bottles and offered them 4 times a day, plus water and formula in straw cups all around the house (I was trying to transition to straw cups). It was rare he finished the entire bottle and I think we got him to take about 12-16oz of formula total.

@littlejoy: he eats about 3 meals that are 4-6oz of puree, table foods, or both (a small bowl), and one afternoon snack of table foods. I don't know if that is a normal amount? He eats more when it is pureed.

Our LO did this! By 11 months, she was on mostly formula - a very short nursing session each morning, but it was likely for comfort. The morning of her 1st bday, she nursed and used a bottle for the last time. We then switched to water for hydration, and she was happy for solids. Is your little one eating a lot of solids? Maybe he just doesn't need as much?

@Mrs. Goose: he does better-ish when drowsy after naps, but he still only does about 2oz at that time compared to the former 5. Maybe I should even try staying in the dark bedroom while feeding the bottle.

Is it different when he's drowsy? Like right before or after naps and before or after bedtime? I started having a harder time trying to get the little one I take care of to drink his bottles of formula at that age so I talked to his parents and dropped one of the bottles and just did it after nap when he was still sort of drowsy and before he got a Janice to start playing. If he got to play or saw my daughter playing he wouldn't want to drink. I also had to sometimes walk around holding him in my arms like a little baby (at 13 months haha) the whole time he drank the bottle and keep him away from the play and noise. He was breast milk until 8/9 months and then a mix and then just formula from 11-13 months. Now they give him whole milk in his bottle and I just give it to him with a straw or in a sippy cup, but he isn't super interested.

I mostly EBF for 5 total months, with 50/50 pumping & nursing for 3 total months, then mostly exclusively pumping with about 1-1.5 bottles of formula a day, months 8-11. At 11 months I basically quit exclusively pumping and only comfort nurse - I don't have a lot of milk left.

Months 8-11 he had 5 feedings: 5oz, 5oz, 5oz, 2oz, and 6oz. The 5oz ones were breastmilk, and the 2 & 6oz ones were formula. Total of about 23 daily oz. He never had any real problem with formula.

Now I can barely get 16oz of just formula into him during the day (I'd do more, if I could). Xmas screwed up sleep so we're back to about 2-3oz at night, as well. Every time the bottle is offered, he'll drink about an oz, then push it away. ALL DAY LONG. A sippy kind of helps but not enough. we've tried different temps, times, toys while drinking, etc.

Do you think he is rejecting the formula taste/amount? Is he weaning himself since it is all formula now? Is he ditching his own bottles and preferring sippies? Did any of you go through something similar at this age?
