My March 2020 baby would not take a bottle since I was home all the time and exclusively breastfeeding during those early months, but we got her to drink out of a cup instead. She was older than 3 months though.

My youngest refused to take a bottle at home, from me or DH. It was frustrating but I talked to his daycare and they said it happens all the time. They have lots of tricks to get them to take a bottle. In just a few days he went from eating 1oz at a time to taking a full bottle for every feed. Sometimes it just takes a completely different person feeding them for the babes to figure it out.

@LadyDi: thanks, trying different bottles and offering while she was distracted were the biggest pieces of the LC’s advice, and the pediatrician only said to be consistent and offer every day.

She takes antacid through a syringe daily and we did confirm that she’ll take milk that way, too, so I know she won’t starve, but it’s still super stressful and a bummer to have to use the last of my leave trying to force a bottle on her.

Oh this sounds very stressful. I don't have personal experience but my friend's son refused the bottle early on and they had to introduce a cup to get him to drink anything. I don't remember how old he was though, I think around 6 months old. Have you talked to her pediatrician as opposed to a lactation consultant? I would probably start trying different bottle and nipple types. Hang in there!

Does anyone have any tips for overcoming bottle refusal? My 3 month old suddenly decided she wouldn’t drink from a bottle anymore about 10 days ago. The most we’ve gotten her to do during that time is chew on the nipple and dribble the milk out the side. Previously she could drink a full 3-4 ounces, and we were giving bottles a couple times a week from the time she was 3 weeks old. I saw a lactation consultant on Wednesday who recommended a couple of things, but we are still having serious issues, so I was wondering if anyone here had dealt with this and what you did. My daughter is supposed to start daycare soon and I am freaking out that she’s going to starve all day.
