We don't heat bottles, we warm just enough to disolve the fat. So f he refuses we usually just put it back in the fridge and offer at the next feed. Since we're using fresh/refigerated milk it's been fine. We're more careful if using previously frozen milk, but that's rare.

@JoyfulKiwi: same. I offered it at a feeding, refrigerated if refused, used it for one more feeding and then tossed it if refused again. I didn't like the idea of cooling and reheating more than that.

@DesertDreams88: my husband does the bottle feeding while I'm at work, but I think it's up to 3-4 hours later. She usually finishes it later. But last night our sitter confused tired with hungry and heated 3 ounces that she refused. I put it in the fridge and now am unsure what to do with it - I don't know if I'm okay with my husband giving it to her Monday morning. My plan is to taste/smell it and if it's not sour let her have it.
Are you back to work yet? Maybe you can wait a couple weeks and try bottles again then? I know some babies refuse bottles because they know mom will breastfeed them later (reverse cycling).

I EPed and would offer BM at the next feeding. I would put it back in the fridge in between. Formula I dump after an hour but it's less heart breaking haha.

This article made me feel better about saving it:

@DesertDreams88: glad to hear there's no difference in the milk. That's the first thing to rule out! DS usually eats every 2-3 hours, so I will keep it only that long & toss whatever he doesn't eat after the second offering. We've had really good luck with avent natural bottles. Also, maybe try a couple different "flows", maybe he would do better with a faster or slower nipple. We actually use a preemie nipple. We tried the newborn and it was too fast, even at four months. Just went everywhere. Hopefully the lasinoh bottles will continue to work!

If LO doesn't drink all the milk, you can always save it to wash LO or yourself with it! It truly is liquid gold! 😁 I accidentally learned about the beneficial aspects of bm as a wash due to an oversupply which resulted in LO being sprayed in the face every time she unlatched. 😂 She hardly has pimples & my friends kept asking how I got rid of it. Regarding bottles, I had to EBF starting at 2 months because she refused & we tried so many different ones too. LO started taking the bottle again at 6 months when I went back to work & doesn't really care what bottle it comes in so long as the milk is warmed up just right. I'm still nursing at almost 11 months & she only takes the bottle when I'm not around.

My friend said to just use the breastmilk freshly pumped or what is in the fridge and then you can save it (back into the fridge for 24 hours) and offer it longer if you don't warm it. Her guy would drink the milk any way it was offered though.

I'd only put a little in at a time, like an ounce, and if it wasn't accepted on a couple of tries I'd freeze the rest. But I had a pretty good hunch it won't get accepted because DD really doesn't like bottles. Now that she's older I have the option of sneaking milk into her solids - much less waste!

@peaches1038: @JoyfulKiwi: how long do you offer for?

The Lasinoh mOmma bottle seems to be working well. He just drank 3.5 oz in just 40 minutes, which is a huge improvement! He was lukewarm about Dr. B, curious about MAM, and totally shut down with Tommee Tippee.

This week it's been fresh milk, pumped in the morning and served in the afternoon or the next morning. In the past it has been feel milk pumped in the afternoon and served the next morning, or, thawed frozen milk. No lipase problem or difference between fresh vs frozen milk, seemingly ( haven't noticed a pattern at least.)

We make a 1 or 2 oz serving and refridgerate if not eaten to offer at the next feeding. After that we toss it.

We did one ounce bottles for sure. At least then you aren't wasting a lot of milk. But yeah you still have to clean all the bottles.

Just wondering how you all tried to avoid wasting breastmilk when experimenting with bottles and bottle refusal? How long would you try to feed a baby from the same bottle? Did warmed vs. cold milk affect your "acceptable" timeframe?

I've been dumping out the (warmed) milk after an hour of offering, but I hate wasting it. It's only been like maybe 10-14 oz culmulative so far, but hey, I made that with my body! My LO is 7 weeks old and seemingly takes 3 oz for full feeding. We started off with 3 oz back when he was ok with a bottle, then he started to refuse about a week ago so we decreased to 2oz servings, and now we are down to 1oz offerings! So many bottles to clean.
