We just wash with hot soapy water nightly and have never had an issue. I do have a couple Medela steamer bags and loved them the few times I used them.

I sterilized for a long time, because i didn't want to use the dishwasher for bottle washing...we used a lot of chemicals because of super hard water.

I kind of developed a routine and used the sterilizer as bottle storage, so I just ran it too. No big deal and we lost counter space.

We have the larger Tommee Tippee steam sterilizer. I love it since we don't have to watch a pot boil and we can just toss things in until we're ready to run it. It's just a push of a button and done in about 10 min. Box said 5 but I think it's longer.
I find it helps put my mind at ease, especially as we are dealing with thrush right now. I sterilize everything compulsively now.

@Cara M. 17: we have this one

http://www.amazon.com/Born-Free-Tru-Clean-Bottle-Sterilizing/dp/B008TACLZK

Not gonna lie, it worked perfect for 2 months or so. But now there have been a couple occasions that it stopped mid cycle. I just unplug it for 15 seconds or so and plug it back in and its fine. I have thought of trying to exchange it at BRU but I have heard horrid things about returns/ exchanges there.

@coacheswife123: I think you can boil glass bottles, but not entirely sure! I will have to look into that.

We use glass bottles, we FF. We have the born free sterilizer. Although they say you dont really need one, DH really wanted one. I really like it. I used iteverytime we cleaned the bottles in the first couple months when they were the little bottles. Now that we have moved to the larger glass bottles, I usually only use it for the nipples, paci's and bottle parts (Dr. Browns). I think it especially came in handy after LO was sick, or alteast it made me feel better knowing the germs were gone off everything she sucks on.

i don't have a sterilizer, and i read somewhere that sterilization was more important when tap water quality was more of a concern. so i've just been washing in hot soapy water, and things have been fine. i use plastic bottles, so i imagine that glass bottles would be even safer.

Did you use a bottle sterilizer? If so, for how long? Do you have a recommended brand?

I can't decide whether it's necessary to sterilize bottles after each use? We plan to use glass bottles.
