@brady80: A little better. DH has been offering a bottle at least every other day. The key for us so far has been feeding her outside. Yesterday she took almost an ounce from the bottle before getting fussy. We still need to make progress, but at least she's latching on and sucking! Hopefully she'll be back to taking full bottles in the next couple of weeks.

@lawbee11: how's your bottle feeding going? I wanted to let you know that we tried the Mam bottles over the weekend and they worked! She takes a Mam pacifier, so maybe that was the key. Now I just have to be diligent about pumping. Hope your LO takes the bottle soon

We went through this and have pretty much overcome it (she's 5.5 months and went on strike around 3 months), although giving her a bottle still isn't reliably the easiest or most fun activity.

For us, the key was to keep trying, at least every other day. It was a drag, but I think that's what made the difference--she saw that this annoying bottle wasn't going to go away :) She also was much happier to take it sitting in a car seat or a bouncy seat, or sitting on a lap facing outwards or lying down/propped up. She initially would only take it from my husband (after being cool with taking it from everyone when she was a newborn) and had to build up to taking it from the sitter, etc. Singing or reading to her or otherwise distracting her while offering it helped. If she started to fuss, we put it down, gave her a little while, and tried again within the hour. And again. And again. We stuck with the same bottles and nipples, and are now back in a pretty good swing. Sometimes it takes repeated tries, but she generally comes around now and finishes it off.

Our ped also recommended trying sippy cups, straw cups, or just giving her a small cup of pumped milk to sip (start with a medicine cup), but we didn't try that. Might be worth a shot!

Also, I had to leave the house when we were working on it, because I found it to stressful to hear her fussing while knowing that I could just sweep in with my boobs and solve the problem. Good luck! I think it's common but can be overcome!

I think I responded to lawbees thread, but right now the only way I can get c to take a bottle is feed one side, then when she's calm and not super hungry but not full, sneak the bottle in. Yesterday I had to put her in te rock and play to eat it, she wouldn't take it in my lap. It's not the bottle type itself, I don't think. I just have to figure out a time when she's hungry but not angry.

And while we are working it out I'm just diving 1-2 oz bottles to avoid dumping full ones down the drain! I do a full pumping session (4 oz for me) then I'm pouring it into the TT bottles in small increments.

If it makes you feel any better we gave my son a bottle every day or every other day but he still went on a bottle strike. One day he just decided that he didn't want it and cried for an hour until he was so hungry he finally gave in. It was touch and go for a couple of months until he went to daycare and took it because he was so distracted by the completely different environment.

@brady80: I ordered a couple of different bottles on Amazon. They should be here tomorrow so we'll try again then. Fingers crossed!

@lawbee11: ha! and I responded to it. That just shows you how sleep deprived I am. To top it off she had her 4 month shots yesterday so it hasn't been a fun few days over here.

any luck for you?

my 4 month old is on a bottle strike and I totally blame myself! We started her on a bottle around a week old, she started taking a pacifier at 3 days. The bottle was never an issue. Then we became lazy. My husband stopped doing a night feeding because she was only getting up once and it was just easier for me to do it and I got super lazy about pumping. Around 8 weeks she was getting a bottle every other day, then much less frequently.
Now she screams when we try to give it to her (I've tried, my husband, my mom and dad). We've tried a few different bottles. There are some that she will chew on but not suck and then will scream.
Luckily I'm not going back to work until she is 6 months, but I would like to feel like I can go out and not have to time it around her feedings.

Any thoughts? Anything that has worked? I have a few friends who hired nurses to come over and get their kid on a bottle. I'm not opposed to that but I want to exhaust all possibilities.
