@FaithFertility: they said until 12 months, formula/milk intake should be around the high 20's oz, and after 12 months, I guess it cuts down drastically. Right up until her 1 year birthday I was giving her 5 bottles a day/25-28oz total. When we had our 1 year doctor visit, the ped said food should now be LO's primary source of nutrition.

We just cut bottles recently (3 weeks ago), and lo's milk/water intake has definitely plummeted--on a good day she finishes 1 sippy/straw-cup's worth. Her appetite has definitely increased, and she eats a lot of yogurt and cheese. I still nurse at least 3 times/day (morning, after daycare at 3ish, and night on daycare days; more on home days) and she's nursing more often, so maybe that helps. But I still worry and want to ask our ped about it at our next visit, though he told me before that they don't care about a specific amount after 12 months if all else is fine. She's actually LESS constipated than she used to be--maybe she was on too much dairy before! ETA lo is 18 months

At 11-12mo, my LO went from drinking 24-28oz with a bottle, to 14oz with a straw cup. We skipped sippy cups. Now, at 16 months, he drinks even less, like 10 oz total or so. Unlike other kids, he doesn't love yogurt or cheese (he literally only eats one type of yogurt, and is ok with cheese but won't gobble it up), so it does stress me out still that he doesn't get as much calcium as he should. However, he does eat a good amount so I try to provide a balanced diet and cross my fingers.
But to answer your question, since you're already down to one bottle, I think it's fine to wean your LO off completely. As others have stated, she will likely increase her intake of solid foods as a result. Oh, and our pediatrician says no more than 14 oz of milk anyway.

@Pumpkin Pie: Couple of days maybe? But she still has days where she eats more or less. Also I think over all she probably eats less than other kids but her weight is okay and she seems happy so... whatever? I just had to step back and let her be, because at some point that is all you can do. As for constipation, we've struggled with that since 9 mo when she started eating more solids and I didn't notice a change when she got off milk. We still struggle but not more than before. We have, since 9mo, given her juice daily (usually about 4oz in the morning of pear juice). We also don't feed her much apples or bananas or bread products, and I keep cheese to twice/day max. If she gets constipated now I just feed her a bunch of dried raspberries or fresh blueberries or grapes and that seems to sort it out.

I took DS about a week to adjust. He was constipated during that week. I gave him a bunch of pureed prunes, which helped the constipation.

My little one will be 13 months on the 10th. I went the cold turkey route last week (wed). My DS loves his straw cup and will drink anything except milk. He just spits it out.
I think he has only drank milk out of his straw cup a handful of times. this morning he surprised me and drank his milk right away. I hope it's not just a one time thing. I sent his straw cup with milk to daycare this morning so I'm hoping that he didn't refuse it.
He's getting his calcium through yogurts and cheese. I was a bit worried about dehydration but he loves his water.
Ugh! Hopefully he will stop being so stubborn soon.

@Mae: how long did it take your LO to adjust?

I give her yogurt every day. I'm also worried about constipation since her water/milk intake seems to be so low.

at our 1 year checkup, our pedi said 12-16 oz a day should be our goal. He drinks milk just fine, but I've also been told that it would be fine for him to eat equivalent # of servings of dairy (cheese, yogurt...) if he didn't drink milk.

It sounds like you are just fine, especially if she eats 1 other serving of dairy during the day.

I'd think she'd start eating a bit more as she starts drinking a bit less. I was nervous about bottle weaning and my LO was on 20oz/day because she didn't eat much. My ped said we should really only be at 8-16 oz max a day anyways. Then out of nowhere my LO stopped drinking milk entirely (literally overnight, 20oz/day to 0oz/day) and obviously I was a bit worried about her calorie and water intake, but she totally adjusted. I make sure I give her 2-3 servings of dairy a day (she usually gets yogurt every morning and two servings of cheese) and she has never eaten better or drank more water than currently. Her weight seems to be holding and she is happy so I guess it is fine!

@Pumpkin Pie: Part of that may be that she was filling up on milk also. I'd just keep at it. Either she'll start drinking more milk from the cup, or she'll start eating more food.

My kids did the same thing until they adjusted to sippy cups. Now their milk intake is around 14-18 oz per day and our ped said that's a little higher than what they really need. I just offer a lot of water throughout the day to make sure they stay hydrated!

She should be moving towards only 3-4 servings of dairy a day, and a serving of milk is only 4oz. I would let her have a sippy of water to stay hydrated throughout the day but her milk intake doesn't sound all that bad.

I'm trying to wean my 12.5 month from the bottle. For the past week, she's only been getting a night time bottle, and a straw cup of milk in the morning and during the day. She knows how to use the straw cup, but won't drink a lot out of it. So, her intake is quite low. She went from 24 oz of milk from the bottle to maybe about 10 oz, after getting rid of the bottles. Should I be concerned about her intake, or just keep at it, and she'll eventually get it? Would you just stick with not offering the bottles, or try bottle weaning later?

I dont know what I would do without this place. I ask you guys everything!
