@Smurfette: thanks! I'll pick one up to try!

@fancyfunction: I gave her a straw cup of milk instead of her bottle this morning and she took a sip and was not having it! So we'll probably just skip the morning wake up milk and go straight to breakfast. For bedtime I gave a milk in the NUK sippy but I could tell she was sucking hard (I tried myself and even I had to suck pretty hard! Not sure if all sippys are like that?). She didn't finish so I had to pour the rest in a bottle and she finished. Hopefully this will lasts only for a few days as well!

@Mamasig: thanks! Yes, I'll have to give her plenty of yogurt and cheese!

We did cold turkey at 12 months. He knew how to use a straw sippy for water. He doesn't get milk with meals. Usually one sometime after breakfast, one in the afternoon, and one before bedtime.

His milk consumption did decrease for a couple of weeks but then went back to normal. He was a bit stubborn at first but I didn't give in. I knew he was getting dairy from cheese and yogurt too.

We quit cold turkey at 12 mo using straw cups. She was already comfortable drinking water from them. I started with milk at breakfast and lunch then one right before bed. The first few nights she wouldn't finish the bedtime cup and I would let her finish the milk from the bottle. But this only lasted a few days. Good luck!

@dolphin: These! I am not worried about weaning from a sippy. She already likes to drink out of a regular cup when we hold it for her.

@Smurfette: which Nuby sippy cup does R like? I couldn't decide if I wanted to introduce a sippy since that's another thing we'll have to wean BUT she's just not drinking enough milk with a straw so we may just have to try the sippy!

We got lucky and R dropped her afternoon bottles at 11.5 months. We offered milk with her meals and water with snacks and throughout the day. Then one morning we just cold turkey didn't offer her morning bottle. Gave her breakfast right away with milk in a cup. That night, she had dinner, bath, and then offered her milk in a cup( maybe a couple sips) and then bed. It took her about a week to really drink milk but is going great now!

We started using a straw cup. Total Pain in the arse to clean milk out of them. She tried stealing another kids sippy at day care so we switched to a Nuby sippy cup for milk. Doing great with it. She will drink water from a straw or sippy cup.

DD is 15 months and still getting 3 bottles a day--at wake up, before nap and bedtime. I tried to offer her milk in other cups around 12 months but she wasn't having it so I just held off making the switch. I would offer milk in a straw cup during meals and she just recently started drinking from it, maybe an ounce at each meal. She drinks water from a straw cup no problem. Her pediatrician wants her completely off bottles by 18 months so I guess I need to get on it! A few questions:

1. Did you offer milk to replace the bottles? So continue to offer milk in a sippy or straw cup at wake up, before nap and at bedtime?

2. Did you offer milk in sippy/straw ONLY at mealtimes?

3. Did you use sippy or straw? Since DD is already drinking from a straw I wonder if it's better to stick with it instead of introducing something new? Although the sippy might be easier since it resembles the bottle more?

Would love to hear your bottle weaning stories and advice! Thanks!!!!
