B uses both sippy and straw cup. He loves to hold his own sippy though. He actually double fists, one sippy and one straw cup. He's ready for college. LOL

LO is almost 13 months and just started to hold a bottle on his own about 6 weeks ago. He's been using a sippy without our help since probably 7 months? We started using a straw cup in the past few weeks in an attempt to bottle wean but he's definitely not a fan...

E didn't really get the sippy cup and he was able to hold his own bottle. We used straw cups and when we used a sippy we would help him tip it up. Around 13 months it just clicked one day. I think he figured it out from watching the other kids at daycare.

My son hated sippy cups! He also didn't really get how the straw worked, so we went right to an open cup.

I think some kids just dont like sippies. C always hated them and moved right to a straw cup.

She held her own bottle from pretty young.

Yes and no. When we introduced a straw sippy she had held her own bottle once but not regularly. It was never an issue for us.

@Weagle: ha! M still doesn't get tipping the open cup. She puts her face down into it and sucks the water up. :) I don't really like sharing cups with her...backwash central.

LO only uses straw cups. She doesn't hold her own bottle, and I do think that it makes using a sippy really hard for her. We have to hold the sippy and bottle. Strangely, she understands tipping an open cup, though.

Does your lo use the a sippy cup? If so, did they learn to hold their own bottle before you moved to sippies? I was thinking about this today, M doesn't understand sippy cups. I wonder if it's because we never taught her to drink from her own bottle. She was always held and helped when drinking from the bottle.

So, I thought maybe this is why she doesn't get the sippy? She picked up the straw cup pretty quickly. I don't think she needs to use the a sippy cup, but I notice that most kids at daycare use them. I feel like she's the odd kid out with her straw cups!

Is your lo a straw cup or sippy cup kid?
