I also had 2nd degree perineal tears. it took over 3 months to feel okay, and my daughter is just 4 months old and I finally feel normal. aside from sex - that is like the first time, every time. yow.

if it's stinging - peri bottle definitely helps. but I'd personally double check with your OB to make sure there isn't something going on or something wrong with the healing, if it goes on for much longer. give yourself the full 6 weeks before panicking, unless you see something or have a gut feeling that something is wrong.

I had second degree tears. It took months until I felt normal down there. I'm almost 6 months pp and have occasional pain. It does get better slowly.

@rachiecakes: yes! I know :( I'd already been back for an emergency repair right before we moved so I was so overwhelmed. I made my husband go poor guy hoping he's the only one down there for a while now!

I had a second degree which was stitched and started hurting bad at 3weeks PP. I suggest getting it checked out by your OB because I ended up with an infection/abscess; antibiotics cleared it up but better safe than sorry.

@scg00387: I was so horrified when I first saw it there, I cried and cried. I thought guts were spilling out.
I was so scared of having another procedure down there, that I wanted to think about it before having it removed. Weird, thing? It's completely gone now!

@rachiecakes: Im terrified it'll come back! So far so good. The local anaesthetic shots they gave me before removing were easily one of the most painful experiences ever. The dr said 'it'll feel like a bee sting!' Uhhh does not compare when the bees stinging all up your lady parts!

I still had pain at 11 weeks...it was more of a dull, I got kicked pain as opposed to a stinging pain so I think depending on the type of pain you are feeling, would determine if the spray would work or not.

I had their so pray and balm and neither did much for me. Do you have a sitz bath? That helped me. I also developed granuloma scar tissue and went from ok to discomfort again so you might want to check in with your Ob. I had to have it removed and now feel great.

did you have a lot of stitches? I was sore for almost 6 months :( I still have nerve damage from my episiotomy.
if you are BF and are dry down there, I don't think that helps heal either. I found using the peri bottle helped, it felt good. I think it's normal (although disappointing - at least I was really bummed) to still be sore past the 6 week appointment.
DS is 13 months and some activities (jumping jacks, riding a bike) are still difficult to do because of the weird pulling/nerve-y feeling where my scar is.

I was still having twinges of pain 6-8 weeks out. That spray didn't really do anything to reduce pain for me, but it sure helped me feel cleaner :)

Does it sting or is it like an aching? The sprays didn't do much for me. If I had sting issues just using the water squirt bottle when I went to the bathroom helped. For the aching down there (which I had for weeks) I took Advil and that did the trick.

My perineum didnt hurt too much initially but it is now. I had a 2nd degree tear. I was thinking about buying some earth mama bottom spray. Would that help at this point? Or is that more just for the initial swelling?
