I want something that will kick my butt within 30 minutes and is stable/heavy enough not to feel cheap. You could always watch tv on a kindle or something like that (which i do at the gym). I wouldn't put it in the family room because you'd have to barricade it from kids. It'd be an eyesore unless you don't use that room regularly. I'd put it in the garage and put a fan nearby and/or open up the doors when it's hot and just deal, basically. But you can buy a good elliptical at Sears, on sale, for a lot less than 3K, though.
