I do DH's with a clippers, but DS's is too hard, its longer on top, so usually gets cut with a scissors and I'm not skilled enough to do the blend. I tried once, took me 4 tries to get it decent looking!

I do both my kids and dh. One has finer hair that is harder with clippers but manageable. Pretty much just do a shorter one on the sides and the longest or scissors on top.

I've been making it up for my two boys. They both have fine hair. I use clippers with a large attachment for the back of their head, kind of earline down. And then the top I cut with scissors to blend? I guess I figure out how long the longest pieces on top should be and then just make sure its a gradual shift in length change between that and the part I did with clippers.

I do my sons frequently and then get a real haircut every so often. I use the clippers on the side and back and scissors on the top

I do. My son has super straight platinum blonde hair and I just don't trust anyone not to butcher it. I bought a pair of scissors on Amazon for like $6 and I give him sort of a modern bowl cut about every six weeks--started when he was maybe 20 months and I just park him in front of Paw Patrol and give him a popsicle to keep him still, we call it Popsicle Haircut. I just kind of freestyle it and we get tons (TONS) of compliments. Have thought about watching youtube videos but I don't feel like I need to since we're going strong.

I watched some videos on YouTube and have given my son a few cuts with scissors, but mostly I used the shaver on the highest attachment. His hair is super thick though.

Does anyone teach themselves how to give little boys haircuts? I have three boys, only two get haircuts right now but they need a trim like every six weeks and it’s so expensive! I’d love to learn how to do it myself but I’m scared. Their hair is too fine and thin to just buzz it short.
