Like if my name was Mary, but people called me Mare as a nickname, I wouldn't put Mare on my school papers, or if I met someone new I wouldn't say, "Hi my name is Mare." I might say "Hi my name is Mary, but people call me Mare." </p> <p>I'm hesitant to use gender neutral names because I work in a male-dominated field so people would naturally assume I'm a man if I had a gender neutral name. </p> <p>With all that said, I do like gender neutral nicknames. Becks is a perfect example. Beckett and Rebecca are not gender neutral at all (to me) so it gives the child (or adult) the choice.
