Daycare is currently training the kids in B's group (he's trained himself awhile ago) and they all do really well. So I would just let daycare handle it if they are willing to do it.

Daycare pretty much handled it for us. I bought cheap underwear and not cute ones and if he had accidents I had them throw them away. I packed like 3 changes of clothing for about 3 days and after day 3 he was fully potty trained and hasn't had an accident since! 6 months later. I feel like daycares are usually equipped for this sort of thing in certain rooms at certain ages, don't feel bad!

I would just let daycare handle it! Mine told me to bring my kid in Monday morning with panties on. I followed their lead and they pretty much had her totally trained within a few days. Daycare is awesome for potty training!

@Mrs. Blue: I would leave it alone for the weekend and trust the daycare. Maybe the daycare has found that by starting them in underwear at school is easier.

My cousins son was a huge paci addict at 3 and daycare does not allow them. They didn't try and wean him off of it at home. Instead every morning when he would get to daycare the teacher would remind him that pacis aren't allowed at daycare and that he would have to put it in the special basket and that he could have it at the end of the day.

All this to say daycare was successful in weaning him off the paci without making it a battle between him and his parents.

I think I would give them a choice over the weekend, underwear or disorders and offer an incentive for sitting in the potty when a timer goes off and a really awesome incentive for going. If you do screen time maybe get all the potty related options ready to go. So lots of chances but no fighting them.

And maybe put cleaner and towels in lots of places to make life easier on your husband.

@Adira: Oh, we've had plenty of poo in underwear. See the previous two failed attempts! Gag.

We started out by having our son wear underwear once he got home from daycare until bedtime (about 2 hours), since daycare wouldn't let us send him in just underwear. After about a week he started to get it and then the next week we started a new daycare that allowed him to go in underwear. He picked it up pretty quickly and only had a handful of accidents at daycare (note this is just for pee, poop was a whole different story and that took about 6 weeks).

I think they might surprise you. Could you have them wear underwear at home and encourage using the potty, but not forcing it? Accidents while wearing clothes is a lot easier to clean up than going commando (though poop in underwear is gross... just a warning). Xander didn't love being forced to go to the potty either, but he very quickly started letting us know when he needed to go - we just had to suggest it before meals and before/after naps/bedtime.

My friend told me she potty trained both her sons (who are like 10 years apart in age) super quick by getting rid of their diapers and telling her boys that they were big boys now and they don't make diapers in their size anymore. I think she did let them use pull-ups for naps but told them that's the last package she could find at the store and after that package there were no more, so they had to try really hard to use the potty because the big boy underwear was all she had left. After the pull-ups ran out, she let them have accidents for as long as it took.

@T.H.O.U.: That's a good idea. We already have them sit on the potty in the morning and before bath anyway, so I guess he could just aim to do it more frequently. I just felt bad thinking of him having to clean up all the messes, so that sounds like it might be a great solution. Thanks!

What about using pull ups for the weekend encouraging potty training but not going full force.

Cleaning up accidents while watching three kids sounds miserable.

So, the boys are starting a new daycare on Monday. They said for their age that they require we send them in underwear with extra changes of clothes. They're almost three, so I'm totally fine with them potty training. We've tried it a couple of times, and they can and have done both kinds of jobs on the potty before. The only reason we stopped last time is because on Day 2 they just started freaking out every time we said it was time to go sit on the potty. We knew they could physically do it since they had hardly any accidents the first day and a half but that maybe they just weren't emotionally ready. Anyway, the daycare knows they aren't potty trained yet, and they said just to send them in underwear and not worry about it.

I work M-W, so we had assumed that we would spend the four days before they start daycare doing potty training so they would be somewhat trained by the time they started. It just clicked in my head, however, that I am leaving town Friday-Sunday. DH will do whatever, but potty training twins when your solo parenting three kids under three sounds really miserable.

Should he go ahead and try to get them in the habit of it or just start the underwear on Monday morning? I feel bad making the daycare take the full weight of the first few days of potty training, and I hope it won't make them kind of annoyed with the boys from the very beginning. Maybe I'm being irrational about that, though. So, what would you do in this situation?
