I think bras with underwire are a no no for comfort. I never wear them!

I used underwire during the day if I was leaving the house because otherwise there is just not enough support. Like, I'm might as well not wear a bra if it doesn't have underwire. Which is fine for loafing around the house, but if I'm in public, I try not to be a saggy boob. :)

I didn't get mastitis at all breastfeeding my daughter for 15 months. I got plugged ducts a couple of times, but I think everyone does at least once or twice. I just massaged while the baby ate and they went away. So, my anecdotal evidence was underwire nursing bras are fine (and for someone who needs the support, freaking awesome!)

Agree - gotta get the right size! I've been wearing my Anita underwires for 7 months and only had plugged ducts in the beginning when I was wearing a few (non-underwire) that were a teeny bit too small for me.

I found the underwire too uncomfortable so didn't go back to underwired until I weaned.

I would also think this would be more of a risk the first 2-3 months when milk supply is still regulating.

I had one but I stopped using it because it hurt my boobs. I also heard that it can cause clogged ducts.

I agree with @MegWag:, it is fine as long as they are truly the correct fit.

My midwife said they are fine as long as you are wearing the correct size. I always bought mine at motherhood and would be measured for the.

They are fine as long as they fit properly, but most women are wearing the wrong size.

i heard something about underwire causing plugged ducts. i asked the SA at motherhood maternity when i purchased mine and she said it's usually because people wear the wrong size (too tight). i don't know if that's true but i wear mine everyday and never had a problem. i like the support... don't want to end up with saggy boobies later :/

I hate underwires to begin with. But mastitis/plugged ducts are not fates that I dare to tempt. I accidentally bought a nursing bra with underwires, so I cut a tiny slit on one side of each cup and pulled them out. Now I wear the bra more often :)

I have a couple friends who blame underwire for plugged ducts that resulted in mastitis, so I've avoided underwire so far.

Are bras with underwire no nos for breastfeeding?
I have 2 nursing bras--one has wire and one doesn't.

Does it really make a difference?
