I had some dull menstrual cramps since about 25 weeks, my doctor told me they're braxton hicks. Then last week I started getting horrible, painful, burning cramps (like when you have the runs, kind of - they make you double over and sweat!). They'd last a minute or so every 10 or 15 minutes, they lasted an evening and overnight. My friend encouraged me to call the hospital so I did, went in for an NST and some other tests, only to be told it's just 'braxton hicks' and that some ladies experience them 'more intensely.' Yay! Hopefully yours won't hurt like that!

I didn't feel them with my first pregnancy, but I got them ALL the time with my second. My belly would get CRAZY hard, all over, for a few seconds and then relax. I couldn't control it and I couldn't stop it. I'm sure I was having them all day long, but I felt them the most when I was driving home, probably because there was not too much going on and I could feel them. They didn't hurt, it just got really hard.

It wasn't until a pregnant friend was describing them after I had had DS that I knew that I'd had them.

If I did a lot of walking I'd feel like my whole belly would tense up, hard all the way around. So much that I'd have to sit it out for a few minutes. I just thought I was getting a muscle cramps or something.

@grizz: does your entire belly get hard to the touch? I just noticed mine doing that and I wonder if it was a Braxton Hicks contraction. It's been about ten-fifteen minutes since it happened and my belly is "soft" again.

I actually didn't feel mine except maybe once and it was just a tightening. My doctor asked me when I was 39 weeks if I was having any BH contractions. I told her not really. She was feeling my stomach at that moment to make sure everything was okay and told me I was actually having one right then but I just wasn't feeling it. DH told me I had them a lot when he felt LO move but I couldn't feel those either.

My OB said they can feel like menstrual cramps. I can't feel any tightening in my uterus, but I can feel the cramping. It feels like my period is coming, yuck.

My OB asks me at every appointment if I'm experiencing Braxton Hicks contractions, but I'm really not sure! I do feel a tightening feeling sometimes, but it feels like its more LO curling up into a ball and staying there for a little while. What did yours feel like?
