Doesn't really sound like BH or contractions - usually your belly gets hard with BH, and contractions...well, you can usually just tell when they're real contractions. I'd say it's more likely either gas pains or stretching/round ligament pain.

Thanks everyone! I did end up having another braxton hicks- this one was top of my belly and the whole thing went hard, when I got up for more water. If I have one more I will call even though they aren't consistent.

If the pain goes away with drinking water and resting, it's not a real contraction- it sounds like either Braxton hicks or round ligaments stretching and causing you pain. BH always happened for me more at the top of my stomach which makes me think round ligament pain- those were always so intense for me it would stop me in my tracks.
I really think you've got nothing to worry about, but like others said if you'll feel better after talking to a nurse, it never hurts =)

With everything you're saying, I wouldn't worry! I think it's 6 BH an hour, then call, or if they start to have a rhythmic pattern. Definitely hydrate, rest and see if they stop or continue.

I've had some round ligament pain that has made me stop walking! Maybe it's your ligaments stretching?

I had very intense BH that forced me to stop and breathe. They were always at the top of my stomach, though. It was mostly a tightness & squeezing feeling. I also had really bad, painful gas pains at the end of my pregnancy too, but I could always tell it was gas. Your pains sound different, so I might call just to see what a nurse has to say. They will probably tell you that as long as they're night timeable, don't worry.

@MamaMoose: Thanks! I will just keep drinking and take it easy for the rest of the evening. I know I lean towards overly paranoid so I am trying to be rational. I will call if I end up with any more painful ones.

Call. It never hurts. If it's nothing, at least you have the peace of mind.

Hhmhhh. The fact that you had to stop walking to get through the pain is what concerns me. But I was always told up to four BH contractions in an hour was OK. If it doesn't happen again I think you're fine. But if it continues to happen with any movement I would call.

I am blatantly a paranoid person when it comes to health related issues so I am probably over reacting...

I am 28 weeks and can't decide if I am having braxton hicks, real contractions, gas pains or if my uterus is just stretching. Three times in forty minutes I had an uncomfortable feeling in my lower belly- like pubic line, once extending up to my navel. It feels more like stretching than cramps but intense enough that I stopped walking for a second. I drank a bunch and sat for 2 hours and was fine. Then I had two more episodes of this when I was walking again. TMI- I have had some gas but nothing crazy, I also went number 2 3 times today which is like a pregnancy record because I am on zofran. Baby is moving, I am drinking water and laying on my left side. My lower belly feels sort of tender. Should I be concerned? I will happily take people telling me I am worrying about nothing  .
