My cousin gets Brazilian Blowouts regularly. She used to do Magic Straight but has converted to Brazilian because she says it makes her hair smoother (she has thick hair with really tight curls) and lasts longer. I asked her about the formaldehyde thing, and she says her place doesn't smell any worse than other straightening processes and doesn't make her eyes sting.

My sister gets the Brazilian Blowouts, her hair always looks great, but she isn't the type to worry about adverse effects of beauty treatments, so I doubt she really looked into it.

I read something a while back about Brazillian blowouts being bad for you.. ?
Never tried magic straight (or any type of perm).

@banana: stinging eyes... Doesn't sound like fun!

It's weird... the guy who cut my hair last did both Magic Straight and Brazilian blowouts but said the latter would be better for my hair in the long run... Something about Magic straight stripping hair to the core and Brazilian not doing that. I'll have to ask him again his reasoning.

I got it once and never again. My eyes are majorly stinging because of the suspected formaldehyde. I never had them sting that much before. And I've had Magic Straight Perms in the past. Not to mention, it only lasted a few months before my hair started getting wave again. I think the Magic Straight was more worth it IMO.

I'd avoid due to the formaldehyde thing.... Some companies were lying when they said they didn't use it.

Been thinking of getting this done... Anyone have any stories, tips or advice to share?

I used to get Magic Straight every few years and got a digital perm once, but I heard that Brazilian Blowouts are the way to go now. I have thick hair that's slightly wavy and can be frizzy if not styled. Thoughts?
