@Sammyfab: @Honeybee: @jennylynn: Thanks for the wonderful advice! Sorry for the delayed response. It's been a hectic long holiday weekend for us. Happy to say that little Skyler is happily sleeping in his miracle blanket after I put it on correctly. Although, sometimes I can tell that he's not a fan of it during the day time or in the mornings. He naps unswaddled all day long. So, hopefully I can transition him to being unswaddled in a month or so.

We're trying to transition to a sleepsack right now for this same reason. LO is 13 weeks tomorrow, and has been consistently busting out of any swaddle I've tried lately. I took that as a sign she was over it, so we've been swaddling with one arm out using an A&A blanket with a sleepsack over it. The first 2 nights she slept from 11-7. AMAZING! Tonight is night 3 so we'll see if it continues. Naps are a little more challenging but we're making progress

I feel like we're having the same issues today! DS is also 3 months and lately he's been breaking out of all of his swaddles (day and night) except that he won't sleep without it. I swaddle with A&A blankets during the daytime, and Summer Infant SwaddleMe blankets at night. Here's what HAS NOT worked for us (but may work for you):

CocoBee suggested a swaddling technique she featured on her blog (linked in her profile). DS broke out of it.

Another poster suggested the Russian swaddling technique (YouTube it, there's a video). DS also broke out of this one. I think he is just too big for either of these swaddles to work; I think it would work better on a smaller infant.

Mrs. Bee blogged about how she swaddle weaned Olive by just stopping swaddling cold turkey. For us, this resulted in 1/2 hour meltdown from a baby who hardly ever cries. :(

Mrs. Bee also mentioned that some parents transition by leaving one arm out of the swaddle for a while so the baby gets used to it, before leaving out both arms. DS also hated this and cried until I reswaddled him.

With my daughter, I introduced a lovey at about this age, and as long as she was holding onto that, she didn't need the swaddle. DS also did not take to this method.

Here's what HAS worked:

I swaddle DS up and lay him in the middle of his crib. Then I fold and A&A blanket twice lengthwise and tuck in in between the crib mattress and sides of the crib very tight across his shoulders/abdomen. It restricts his movement so he can't wiggle enough to get his arm out.

Also, another poster (I can't remember who) mentioned that she used to wrap her LO's arms in a receiving blanket INSIDE the sleep sack. I tried wrapping DS inside his large SwaddleMe, and it worked like a charm! Just fold the receiving blanket over twice, and wrap that around his arms/abdomen BEFORE putting on the SwaddleMe. The only issue with this one is that it can get very hot, so I keep DS in his diaper only and leave his window open at night so he doesn't overheat.

My LO is 18 weeks and he is still swaddled. We do the double swaddle with an a+a blanket for naps and at night we do the escape proof swaddle with an a+a blanket and swaddleme (search for both in YouTube). He never breaks out!

My 3-month-old started breaking out of his Summer Infant swaddle the past couple of nights no matter how tightly I swaddled him. This kid is strong! It's so darn cute seeing him suck on his little fist though; but then that meant he wasn't going to sleep anytime soon. Well, at least that's what I thought! Then I put on the miracle blanket and he broke out of that too b/c I didn't put it on that well and I just gave up. I let him suck his little fist and he fell asleep for about 3 hours. Not a long stretch for him since he usually does between 4-6 hours overnight usually. And this morning he was almost completely out of his miracle blanket swaddle. Haha! I was in a jam and improperly put it on him last night. No wonder his arms came out!

I like how fast the Summer Infant swaddles are to put on but I guess he can wiggle his little left arm out every single time now. I seriously thought I had it down to keeping that little arm in but I guess I was wrong!

What swaddle do you use and if you use either the Summer Infant or Miracle Blanket do you have any advice on keeping those little arms in? And how long did you swaddle your LO for? I feel like he could use another month or so and then I'm going to use sleep sacks and then sleep train him. But in the mean time I like my long stretch of sleep at night! :)
