Just wanted to say we went to his pedi today. He has nothing wrong like an ear infection or any reason to not be sleeping. She also said that his age and with him eating good in the day he doesn't need to nurse at night.

Her suggestion is to put him in his crib and not get him until morning time. She said he just wants to party. If he wakes up pat him, soothe him, give him a lovey, check on him but no picking up.

That seems so harsh, but I know that it may be what he needs. I will have to talk to hubby about it. If this is what we do it will be a long few nights.

@Trailmix: I don't know how you survive the day if they are both up. Do you at least have help with night wake ups sometimes? My DH will help if I wake him up, but if I'm just going to nurse DS back to sleep I don't bother. I usually make DH handle any wake ups before midnight.

@scg00387: We have a pedi appointment Monday, so I'm going to talk to her about it. I really hope it isn't something medical.

@edelweiss: The nights when they just want to be awake in the middle of the night are the worst. If this is a regression I hope it ends soon.

Today he napped like crap, so I'm scared to see what tonight will look like.

around 12 months, LO went through a sleep regression--i wonder if it is the same for your LO? previously i had not believed in sleep regressions, until LO would wake up at unexpected times and cry/want to hang out for 2 hours. in the middle of the friggin night. this happened sporadically for a period of 2 weeks, and then it just stopped. he usually just wakes once around 4am, but during that period he was waking at 10pm, 12am and 1am. it was really hard because there was nothing we could do--his cries were really frantic. i hope that this goes away for your soon, whatever method you use. sorry that's not that helpful but just wanted to let you know that you are not alone, and it does sound like a phase (regression, maybe illness, whatever).

@ALV91711: Is there any way it could be a medical thing? We've never done chiropractics for LO but I know some say it helps... ear infection? Ugh. The screaming and that many wake ups when he puts himself to sleep seems so strange to me- not like a bad habit but like something's wrong? I'm so sorry!

Yeah, I work about 25 hours a week. And drink approximately one Diet Coke per working hour, LOL...
As soon as I get the ok from the dr, I'm going to try CIO again for the first wake-up, to see if I can get him back down to 2 wake-ups a night...blech, he has a twin sister who has gone from STTN to waking 1-2x a night too, some nights I literally don't sleep between 12-4 am!

@Trailmix: It is terrible and tiring. Are you working? I go back in 2.5 weeks and I just don't know how I am going to make it through the day.

This is IDENTICAL to what I am going through with DS, who is 9 months. Was doing better, waking 1-2x a night, then got insanely sick and has been up every two hours since and will only sleep on me. We tried CIO two months ago and he cried for over 2 hours :( I really, really wish I could give you advice of something that worked for us but I have nothing except exhausted commiseration...and hoping someone else will chime in with some ideas I can use too!

Between teething, being sick and then teething again DS has accumulated some horrible sleeping habits.

CIO just isn't working (with or without checks) for his middle of the night wake ups. We aren't sure what to do now. He will scream (not cry or fuss) for hours. He also sits up and can't get back down since he is mostly asleep.

The last 2-3 nights he has woken at 11, 1, 3 & 5 and last night 2 as well. Some of these I nurse him, others just lay him down and turn on his glow worm.

DS is 11 months and has never slept through the night but he used to only wake once.

He also goes to bed easily, so I know he can put himself to sleep when he is tire.
