@BoogieBea: thanks for sharing!

@Coco Bee: good to know! Are you looking to get rid of your copy? I'll buy it from your, if not I'm going to pick up a used copy either on eBay or Amazon.

@banana: yea, like you I'm really NOT a fan of the pacifier. We use it in the car because there's nothing else we can do. She's definitely a comfort nurser. Maybe it's wroth trying because it's def the lesser of the two evils in my book.

@littleveesmommy: the thing is she has never been a good napper. Always only 30-45 minutes. And at daycare and when my husband has her on Wednesdays she'll fall asleep at the bottle too. But she def naps better with me....on the boob. I really don't mind the nurse to sleep part. I love it actually. But it's the fact that lately she will not let me put her back in the crib that's the killer.

@Sammyfab: putting her back is a hit or miss. I can do the exact same thing and some nights she'll go back in and some nights not.

@c.sassy: M is really strong willed! haha

We're doing this right now. We started with naps first. I just started rocking her to sleep when I knew her belly was full and she, surprisingly, started taking the paci again. We'll eventually break the nursing/bottle to sleep habit at night, but I'm not too worried about that right now. So far, LO doesn't seem too strong-willed and bad habits have been fairly easy to break.

I nursed to sleep at the very beginning and would ever-so-gently place my LO in his bassinet hoping I wouldn't wake him up. After a couple of weeks we moved him into his own room and my DH would take LO to transfer him into his bassinet or crib. Eventually LO would be more and more awake everytime we transferred him. Now he gets a bottle every night and he is wide-eyed and smiling at us as we put his pajamas on. He will fall asleep in 3-15 minutes.

I used to nurse V to sleep for naps until around 3 months when I knew we had to break it since I had to return to work. I started by gradually nursing to sleep to nursing until drowsy to nursing earlier during her awake times so she's still got a full belly for the nap. It involved some tears and during that time, if she was having a lot of trouble I'd nurse her to sleep so she knows I'm there for her. Over two weeks she learned to nap on her own.

As for bedtime..... ehhh....... nursing her to sleep as I type this. =\ I'm not ready to give this up yet and she very much enjoys the comfort. Although when she wakes up she is able to fall back asleep on her own. I also nurse her once in the middle of the night and put her in her crib awake.

In regards to arms falling asleep from nursing often, you should try side lying position. It saved my sanity during her teething phase around 5.5 months where for 1 month, she was up every 1-2 hours and would only go back down after nursing. I thought that we had lost our good night sleeper but that went away (thank goodness!!!).

Hang in there!!!

I don't remember if I asked this before but have you tried a pacifier? I know some moms don't like using them (I was one of them) but it really does help tremendously. But it's up to you. I used one with my son (only at night) and he would suck on the pacifier for a few minute and pass out. Then it would fall out of his mouth and I would pick it up and remove it from his crib. Some babies just need to comfort suck. I was totally not wanting to use one but I'm glad I did. He weaned off of it pretty easily because we only used it at night.

I'd rather use a pacifier for a little bit than do a whole CIO thing.

The No Cry Sleep Solution actually has a method for breaking the nursing to sleep!! I didn't do it because eventually we did CIO as a last resort, but it sounded like with time and patience it would work!

I really, really liked that book.

With my first, I did CIO to break the nursing habit. After a day of sleep training, he learned to fall asleep on his own. With my second, I only sleep trained her on her third nap when she was about 4 months old. By 6 months or so, I started to put her down for other naps without nursing her completely asleep. Sometimes she would cry loud, to which i would pick her up and rock/nurse, but many times, she would just whimper a bit then fall asleep. I didn't stop nursing her to sleep for bedtime until 9 months. She transitioned very smoothly at that time.

I am so interested in this, too. I can sometimes get Penny to nap without nursing but almost never to bed at night. The last few weeks have been hell, and I go to bed frustrated...I look forward to hearing what others have done!

Help. I don't know how it even started but M nurses to sleep. Between the 3 month growth spurt and 4 month sleep regression sleep has been horrendous.
She has woken up every 1-2 hours almost every single night for the past month. Usually after a 4/5am waking she will not let me put her back in the crib.

It takes an hour to put her down, I've tried putting her down earlier but she always wakes up! I am fine with the one hour bc it's a vast improvement from the 2-3 hours before.

It just makes it hard for other people to put her down for naps during the day. Or for me to get anything done. Not to mention 3/4 of the night I sleep sitting up. My back is killing me and last night I had to switch arms bc both fell asleep.

I am NOT cut out for CIO. There's been a few times I've gotten frustrated and I let her for a few minutes. But I feel horrible and always pick her up!

My first step is to purchase "The No Cry Sleep Solution" and see if there's anything in there I can use!

For those that broke a nurse to sleep habit. How did you?
