I still nurse DS (12 months) before bed, but we brush teeth, read, and snuggle after. He goes in his crib awake but calm. He will cry for a minute and then whine for another 5 but he falls asleep on his own and then wakes about 6 or 7 hours later for another nursing. Good luck!

We havent broken the habit yet but my LO has started to pop off and fall asleep in my arms instead of nursing every night. I think the biggest thing is to replace the nursing with snuggling rocking and then go from there. Move it earlier in the night so maybe bath/nurse/play/book/snuggle. Then you can trade down from snuggling to sleep to rubbing back to sleep, etc. From what I've read it is important to still give them that quiet close to you time.

Talk to me about how you broke the nursing to sleep habit.

M is 13 months and I think it's time. :( I have been the one to put her to sleep every single night for her whole life. It will be nice to be able to share that duty or go out for dinner and not worry she will scream for hours.

Currently we do bath time, play a bit/book, nurse to sleep. Sometimes she goes in drowsy and sometimes she's fully asleep.

She is sleeping pretty good through the night so I'm afraid to mess with a good thing!

How did you break the nurse to sleep habit?
