We have just two born free glass bottles (smaller size) and they've worked really well for us! I'm only away from my daughter one night a week for class and we started her on them once per week around week 4 so that she could get used to them. For us, any more than 2 bottles would have driven me nuts, but we also live in a tiny one bedroom apartment.

@LaineysMom: That makes sense! That was my original thought about glass bottles too. I thought they would be so heavy. But I have these gifted ones, so I guess I'll have to give them a try someday.

@shopaholic: The Born Free glass bottles are super heavy. I have the larger ones.. so with milk in them, they probably weigh over a pound. By time LO is able to hold it herself she wont be drinking from a bottle. They're also a pain to clean.. so many stupid parts. I originally bought them because I thought that glass was better than plastic, but it's just not practical. I love my silicone como tomos!

We just have 1 that he will use, we bought a variety (6 types, 1 bottle of each) but he will only drink from the 1 type. He will barely drink out of a bottle anyways, so any more would have been a waste.

WOW that's a lot of bottles!! Lol!

I have 2, one that came with my pump, which doesn't have a nipple and one tommee tippee "closer to nature" with a slow flow nipple.

I bought both of those after LO was born. I'm a SAHM, and I rarely pump (like not even once a week)

@mrsjyw: That was my main reason with going with TT too. 3 of my friends used TT's with their LOs and the shape seems closer to a real breast and the shape seems easy to hold. I also liked the Como Tomo's and mOmma bottles but no one bought them from the registry and I'll only try them if LO doesn't like what we have.

@shopaholic: yep! we've lucked out that he hasn't had any issues with any of the bottles we've given him (similac, medela, TT). I'll let you know about the others. I'm keeping them because they were gifts and I don't have receipts, and just to have "extra" just in case... I'm sure when I go back to work, they'll come more into play. I love how TT is shaped, it fits better in our bottle warmer (avent one I think...) and A drinks well from it (slower paced, not overflowing, etc.)

@LaineysMom: Why were the glass Born Free a mistake if I may ask? I would have been so tempted to buy 2 of the Como Tomo (or mOmma) bottles too if we didn't have SO many bottles now. Granted, more than 1/2 were the glass ones we were gifted.

FWIW - I'm also planning on pumping and storing milk in the TT bottles directly. Since I won't be needing too much of a storage supply for daycare or anything, I'm not worried about the space and there's an adapter for the Medela pump.

@mrsjyw: So A is taking well to the TT's then I suppose? Good to hear because I just found 2 more small TT's come with the sterilizer unit. So 2 more of the ones I bought will get returned.

I have at least 8 medela bottles that i've only used to pump into. then i have 6 4 oz dr brown bottles and 6 8 oz bottles. i run the dishwasher every other night so it is just exactly the right amount for me. i would hate to wash bottles every night! i sent 3 bottles to daycare until about 3.5 months and now he only takes 2 bottles at daycare.

@shopaholic: I have a lot.. FYI you only get one nipple with the Medela pump. The rest are storage bottles.

I have: 8 Como Tomo bottles (only ones I use), 3 glass born free bottles (what a mistake), 6 Aent bottles (free), 2 Medela bottles (came free with my 2 pumps).

I originally only used 4 Como tomo bottles, but after I started exclusively pumping I bought 4 more. Now I only have to do dishes once a day, which is amazing!

When my son was a baby he didn't want bottles. He was ebf and would refuse them. I ended up using nuby sippy cups if I had to pump for him. So this time around I'm gonna have 2 bottles and a bunch of the nuby cups. I'll be home to ebf her so I suspect the same will happen.

It really depends on how often you want to wash bottles.

With Wagon Jr. I pumped into medela bottles but fed him with playtex nursers with drop-ins. We had five actual bottles, and 8 nipples and rings (and of course plenty of disposable drop-ins). I think I had about 15 medela bottles. I'd pump into them and store in them as well. Since I was nursing and only giving one bottle a day, I only had to wash bottles/pump parts every three days or so.

It's a whole different system with exclusive pumping, which is what I'm doing now! But we started out just using the medela bottles and nipples and it's SO much easier since you pump into, store, and feed all from the same container.

When I was breastfeeding, we had 3 small Playtex ones. I was home with him all day so he nursed and then had one bottle of pumped milk in the evening my husband gave to him. We'd also use bottles when we were out and about on the weekends and I wasn't comfortable nursing wherever we were going. 3 was perfect for our situation then. We tried the Medela ones that came with my pump, but the nipple was way too fast for him and he spit up a lot.

Now that he's just eating formula, we have 10 bottles...we only have to run the dishwasher every other day so it works out well.

I voted we have 6-10 because we have 10, but we use them VERY rarely. We used the Medela ones that came with the pump and she ended up liking them just fine. Well we had Avent ones too, and since I couldn't take them back, she used those a couple times. She used both bottles combined maybe 6 times. I wish I would have stuck with just a bottle or two for when she is away from me.

@hilsy85: This is probably close to my ideal situation. So I will try to return most of the ones I bought since I can't return the gifts.

@travelingbrit: I'm thinking if anything, I will supplement with pumped milk too - just after the first month so maybe Daddy can feed for some bonding and/or we can get her used to it if she's with Grandparents or something. I will have to look into the compatibility of pumps and bottles as I hadn't thought about that yet!

I have 5 avent bottles and that's plenty for me...I'm a SAHM and I rarely pump. If you're at home most of the time/with baby, there's not really a reason for you to have a ton of bottles as you'll probably only need to have one or two in the fridge if you're out for the day. It's definitely good to have a few, in case you need to pump in the beginning for various reasons, but I think you're fine with the # you have.

I got two sweets of pump pieces in the hospital when I needed to pump bc LO was jaundice. I use the log skinny ones for my breast that never pumps more than 2.5oz and recently bought 3 more of the 5 oz Medela bottles. So in total I have 6 2.5oz bottles and 6 5 oz bottles as well as 4 dr brown bottles. I recently started pumping more and more so it is helpful to not need to wash everything all day long b
