I started using cow's milk at 11 months. I mixed it with the breastmilk and let the daycare workers know. She was off bottles and breastmilk before 12 months because we were transitioning to sippies and needed to get her off bottles anyways. It was a weird transition but it worked. My opinion is, what's the difference of a couple of weeks? She's still getting her breastmilk at nursing sessions on weekends and in AM/PM.

I would keep pumping as much as you can and start
mixing breastmilk with whole milk at 11 months. That's what I
did with both of mine and it worked really well. I even gave it in a sippy cup at meals to help transition off the bottle.

We started mixing BM with WM as well at around 11 months. My pediatrician was fine with that. After all, there's no magical one year old birthday fairy that comes down and bing! Your child can now accept cow's milk. :)

So my LO is 10 months and I barely have a freezer stash. My mom watches her and had been able to feed her baby yogurt to stretch the bottles. I just started getting serious about solids to try and give her other options besides BM during the day. I end up nursing like crazy when I come home.

@bamblm: We actually went to a toddler formula. Its called Baby's Only. Ive read its really similar nutrient wise to other baby formulas but they are supportive of breastmilk for the first year so its marketed as a toddler formula. It worked great for us for those in a bind situations the last few months of breastfeeding before she was on WCM.

Talk to your pedi. I was in a similar situation (massive freezer stash), and I was so over pumping. My plan was to slowly cut back on pumping sessions, and still nurse morning and night. I did that, but we ran out of milk around 11.5 months.

LO had never had formula and I was nervous about introducing something new, especially when we'd only be doing it for a couple of weeks max.

My pedi said it was totally fine to introduce cows milk a few weeks earlier (up to six weeks earlier). She had no concerns from a nutritional perspective. She agreed that it would have been very stressful to get LO to take formula for a couple of weeks (because she'd never had formula before).

Ask your pedi and listen to your mom gut. A couple of weeks isn't going to make a huge difference. At this point your LO is probably eating a ton of solids and not drinking as much anyway.

I think I remember reading that goat's milk is supposed to be better than cows milk for transitioning from breastmilk ... Not sure if that would be an option, or worth looking into.

I wouldn't introduce cows milk before a year. My husband and I decided we would rather give her formula early on if needed then to go to WCM (more nutrients).

Long story short, My once robust freezer stash is slowly dwindling, and I think will get us to around 11 months-ish. I am trying to work on pumping and supply issues. I pump around one bottle's worth, baby takes two bottles while I'm at work. Exclusively BF on weekends is no problem. The last couple of weeks if it comes down to it, should I introduce some cows milk a little earlier, or should I introduce formula, then transition to cows milk? WWYD?
