@Corduroy: thanks :) I wouldn't have made it without LC and midwife support. I'm hoping we can keep at it but I do worry about transfer and supply. Taking it a week at a time.

@ldh112: I'm sorry. It's good that you're able to see an LC this week. I hope that helps!

@PixieStix: pumping output has been minimal- barely an ounce between breasts even when I rented a hospital grade pump! I could do it just to stimulate things and see if that helps - not a bad idea.

@Corduroy: over a month since the last time that breast was infected! However my third bout has been on the right side (her preferred side even with the infection) and I am on day 9 of antibiotics. Never a dull moment with breast feeding issues over here :)

It does make sense that LO would prefer the non infected breast. How long has it been since your mastitis cleared up? I think it took 2 my LO about two weeks to go back to eating 50/50 after my last mastitis. I would keep offering the left, first.

On the off chance things don't even out, I survived the lopsidedness for 12 months. It sucks and I don't recommend it but one side of feeding can be done.

Haven't dealt with that but I have some ideas. Could you try pumping on the breast before or after the feed? Perhaps pumping before could encourage a better let down for her? Or pumping after to get your left breast to start producing more milk? Also, just a tidbit I heard that 75% babies prefer the right breast over the left.

Have you seen an LC you liked, or sought out a local BF support group?

This has been going on for a while, but I just wanted to throw a question out there for you ladies:

My daughter seems to prefer my right breast. This has been going on since two bouts of Mastitis on the left side (or the preference coincides with the infections). She rarely stays on that side as long as the right and sometimes is frustrated when I start her on that side. I am assuming my let down isn't strong enough on the left. I do switch back and forth and try to keep her on long enough to avoid any engorgement. The breast doesn't get nearly as full-feeling as the other side (hooray for lopsided boobs!). Because we have had issues with her ability to transfer well (still supplementing about 8 oz of formula a day), when she fights me about staying on that side I do worry about it impacting her overall daily consumption, but it seems like things are okay.

Anyone else dealt with this? It's been a couple weeks since we've done a weighted feed/weight check so I plan to go see the LC this week and see her progress. She still hasn't transferred more than 1.25 oz at a weighted feed so I still don't feel crazy confident about our BF relationship.
