I wanted to upgrade to the medela freestyle and it took a lot of digging, but I finally found a durable medical equipment provider that worked with my insurance and had the option for upgrades. I had to pay the difference between the pump and style and freestyle. It took so many phone calls.... Good luck!

Does your insurance have coverage for out of network durable medical equipment? I think that is the right term for what you want to do (e.g. buy a pump from a non approved provider).

You might be able to get reimbursed up to a % of the cost. Or you might be able to find the Spectra via another Durable Medical Equipment provider. My insurance allowed me to use 4 or 5 different ones and each one had varying product lines of Medela, Spectra, Ameda, etc.

I'm using a Spectra now (and Medela before). I like the Spectra a lot but I can't say I think there's a HUGE difference in comfort, output, etc.

I had a Medela last time and got a spectra this time. I prefer the spectra a lot! Did you check ins? Last time mine only had 3 choices (2014) and this time they offered 7 or 8

The difference is that the S1 has a battery pack (so doesn't require an outlet)! Love my Spectra... Is there any chance your insurance might reimburse you up to a certain amount?

I've heard great things on here about the Spectra. People have been saying that it is better than Medela. My insurance covers a medela pump, but the last time around, I really hated pumping because it was loud and uncomfortable. The reviews for spectra are great - comfort, quiet, and great output. Groupon is having a discount on the Spectra S1 and S2. Do you think its worth it to just pay out of pocket for the Spectra? Which one would you get (I can't tell what the difference is).?
