I highly recommend the Spectra S9 for your situation. It’s really easy to use as a single electric pump and it’s battery powered and super light. I would hook up and pump while I did dishes or put away groceries and while I wouldn’t recommend it as your only pump if you worked out of the house, I have the S2 for work and the S9 for home/car pumping and it’s so great. It would be so easy to use it on one side compared to having to plug in the wall and you can fit it in a bathrobe pocket, etc., it’s also a super comfortable pump rather than the pulling suction of a Medela, and I can usually get 5oz in 5-10 minutes.

Spectra s2!!! A week into mine and it's way better than my Medela pump in style. Quieter but most importantly, more efficient.

@Jess1483: I think that’s a good plan to get both! For a couple bottles a week I think it’s totally possible to get by with just the haaka - this is the first time I’ve had one and I really love how easy it is.

@LCTBQE: thanks for chiming in. I’m thinking what I may do is the spectras2 since everyone is raving about it, then also get the Haaka. I’d probably use that one most often, but it’s super cheap, and then if for some reason things are different and I need to pump often, I have a good one. And if I don’t use it, @Mrsbells: mentioned a good re-sale value ;)

@Jess1483: I had a pretty significant/uncomfortable oversupply this time (and high lipase as I discovered, we talked about this ;) ) --I had the Freestyle my first time ($160 out of pocket after insurance) in 2016, and got the S2 free with insurance this time. With the Freestyle I did really like being able to move around and liked the pump overall, but the S2 is such a good pump that I'm done in 6 minutes flat (vs 15) and I honestly don't mind being tethered to it in the least; I much prefer this one. I usually use it as a single pump and hold it up to my breast instead of getting into the hands free bra--you just seal the unused tube off with the little cap that comes on the end of it to create the single pump vacuum. Only mention comparing it to the Freestyle because I saw that you liked the portability aspect and thought I could speak to that. I see your logic with not wanting something too stimulating because you don't want to worsen the oversupply, but IMO the answer isn't a shitty pump, it's a good quality pump but on a lower setting. I have heard seriously nothing but awful things about the Ameda aside from @lindseykaye's remark above, so that makes me wary of counting on that one ??

Regardless, get multiple haakas! I had 4, used them on the other side for 1-2 feeds a day, and built up 70oz frozen in the 1st 6 weeks without pumping at ALL.

Then I started not freezing it and just using the haaka milk to top her off at night during cluster feeding or before bed.

@Jess1483: ah ok. So is the spectra s2 the double option you have? I have used that and would definitely get that over the evenflo. It has good resale value too when you are done with it. Ir is super quiet and can be used as a single pump.

Seconding @MrsBells comment about using a double electric as a single. I had pretty bad nipple trauma on one side, and exclusively pumped on that side for a month until it healed.

@Jess1483: I used the Ameda pump you have 6 yrs ago with my first and really liked it. As was said above you can turn any double into a single but the Ameda isn’t super portable.

I recommend looking at the Spectra S9. I ordered this one for the size and portability factor and am pleased. So far I’ve alsononly used it as a single pump too but will use it at work as a double. I’ve pumped several times on a single battery charge so that’s been nice.

@Mrsbells: Good to know. The reviews on the single electric weren't awesome, but not terrible either. I don't have the freestyle choice. And I looked and the one in the basement is an Ameda Purely Yours. It would be about 4 years old at this point, but never used.

Definitely don't get that evenflo pump. Its very unpleasant to pump with because the pump motor is mounted on top of the bottle. So it is very top heavy and is super loud. I had the double version of it temporarily when my spectra gave out on me late at night and it was the only option at my local walmart.

Keep in mind any double pump can be used as a single pump. If the medela freestyle is an option you can move around with it while you pump. Also with any pump you can use a handsfree pumping bra to keep your hands free.

I am pregnant with #3. With each of my first two pregnancies, I ordered (through insurance) a double electric breast pump. I never used them. I have a terrible oversupply problem and generally speaking don't pump much (and then only with a manual pump). I also have high lipase, so I have to treat any milk I pump. I will be home with baby for quite awhile (like, generally would never leave for more than one feeding) and won't go back to work full-time until she's probably no more than a morning and night nurser. I still have one of the double electric pumps downstairs (no idea which) and I gave the other away.

With that said, I have a ton of options for a breast pump this time, but am intrigued by a single electric pump for a few reasons:
1) It looks like I could move around with it. I often nurse baby, put them down, and then pump while getting things done (one-handed...) A double electric mostly looks like I'd need to stay in one place.
2) It seems like less of a hassle, which is the reason I never used either of my other two DE pumps... That and I was intimidated.
3) I don't necessarily want/need something with a lot of "stimulation." Pumping can make the oversupply worse.

But I'm still having trouble pulling the trigger to order the single electric. Maybe because I'm feeling like it's a waste, when I could get a "better" pump for free? Like maybe I should just buy the single electric and get the double electric for free in case things are different this time? But then I do have that pump in the basement.

Thoughts? These would be the ones I'm choosing between:
https://aeroflowbreastpumps.com/evenflo-single-electric-breast-pump
https://aeroflowbreastpumps.com/spectra-s2-breast-pump
