@pmerr: @mizjl: I just tried the Pumpin Pals shields and now I know why they have such awesome reviews. They get my vote! I like that they came with 3 sizes too.

I'm not one to really push products but try Pumpin' Pals!! http://www.pumpinpal.com/

I swear I wouldn't have been EPing for more than six months if it wasn't for this. It comes in a set of three different sizes so you can try them all out and see which size is most comfortable. Some moms use different sizes throughout the day depending on how swollen their nipples get. Don't bother getting the kit ... they're useless - just get the shields and a hands-free bra like Simple Wishes if you don't already have one. The Pumpin' Pals shields will suck in your areola along with your nipple, which sounds worse than it is, but I promise this is infinitely better than using the Medela shields.

Also, if you don't already do it, use some sort of lubricant on your shields before you pump or put it around your nipples to reduce friction. A lot of people recommend coconut oil or olive oil. I use Earth Mama nipple butter (made with olive oil) and it works fine for me.

Good luck!

I have a PISA and EP. I currently have the biggest size shield that Medela makes, but I'm not sure if it's quite right. I know that one of my nipples is little flat, so it fits differently than my other one, but it looks weird in the shield while pumping, like it's still not big enough. It's uncomfortable while pumping, but I also had to wait a few days using a smaller size while the bigger one came in the mail.

Is there another brand I should try using? Is it just the way my nipple is and that's why it's weird? Am I just being paranoid?
