DD had that every now and then and I attributed it to a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance because it would happen if she didn't quite empty one side, or kept popping on and off a lot. But, it would always go back to the normal brown poop, so I didn't worry too much.

We have had a bit of a poop obsession in our house. My daughter is 5 months old. She typically poops 3-4 times a day. The afternoon poops are usually green and very mucousy. She has even occasionally had a tiny drop of blood. When she was 2 months old she did get diarrhea and the was the color of Mountain Dew and very liquidy.
So, I have adjusted feedings to try to fix a hind milk/foremilk imbalance, and eliminated dairy and saw no change. I was at the dr on Monday with more poop concerns. They basically said, your baby is growing well, happy, and healthy. Some babies just poop weird and we don't know why.
So I could probably eliminate wheat, soy, etc. and see a change because I'm guessing its some mild sensitivity. But the point would just be to see different poops. She is thriving,so I'm trying to let it go and stop obsessing about her bowel movements.

Basically, if babe is bothered by it (uncomfortable, not growing, etc) then there are lots of things to try. If babe seems fine, try not to worry!

when my LO's poop was green during the first few months, i was all worried after having read so much information on foremilk/hindmilk imbalance, allergies, etc. however when i asked my pediatrician about it, she said said green to yellow to orange is normal, you just don't want white, black or red. also, if your LO seems fine, then i wouldn't worry about it.

Xander's poop ranges from neon orange to dark green and all the colors in between! He seems totally fine, so I haven't been concerned. I think you're probably okay! :)

@Anagram: Don't freak yourself out about not changing her quick enough. It sounds like you're plenty interested in her poop so I doubt you're letting her stew. I'd go with the Kellymom information.

Thanks all! It seems others have experienced this, but now I'm horrified that it may be because I'm not changing her quick enough? http://forums.llli.org/showthread.php?15255-Green-Chopped-spinach-like-poop

We went through this for 2-3 weeks when LO had a bad cold. Eventually it went back to normal.

My breastfed baby has green poops lots of times, but it's never been frothy. I eat a lot of spinach and cabbage.

That article is right on. Unless you're eating a ton of spinach or other dark leafy greens everyday, it shouldn't usually be green. I would look into foremilk imbalance or food allergies if it's something that's consistently going on.

I didn't know what category to put this question in....

My EBF babies poops are frequently so dark green it's almost the color of cooked spinach. And sometimes it looks like it has cooked spinach in it. Other times its yellow or yellow brown.

I pump and bottle feed (mostly. We still bf occasionally), so I'm thinking it can't be a foremilk/hindmilk issue because I put whatever I pump from one breast into the bottle and she finishes it.

Is this still in the realm of normal? She doesn't seem to be particularly gassy or fussy, so I'm not really worried about health, just curious.
