@gingerbebe: @blackbird: Thanks for sharing. I'm hoping to be a bit more relaxed about it this time and realize that it doesn't have to be all or nothing. That would have helped so much last time.

E was primarily FF but T is breastfed. Actually we just started supplementing a few weeks ago. I'm not a dogmatic person, though, and I never felt like being a good mother was directly tied to breastfeeding him, so I had a more chill attitude about it. Sometimes it was stressful, but I also knew that if it didn't work out, I wasn't a failure by any means. Now he's combo fed *shrug*

Well I never made enough with DS to EBF. It took 12 weeks of nursing and constant pumping and every supplement ever to get to 22 ounces of output a day, which just wasn't enough with DS' weight issues. We supplemented with one bottle of formula a day, until I decided to move to formula completely at 10 months. I'm glad DS got as much BM as he did, but just that one bottle a day gave me so much more peace of mind. DS also never had issues with bottles or switching or mixing with BM and formula and anyone could feed him.

So while I'm hoping BFing works out better this time, I am totally fine with combo feeding again if needed, and with a toddler, I know I won't have the amount of hours I had to pump with DS. I also had PPA/PPD with DS so I'm not looking to stress myself out any more than I have to.

I breastfed Miss A until she was three but the early days were very stressful and consumed with dealing with tongue tie, thrush and bad latch etc. One of the best things I did before my wee guy was born was visit with an IBCLC at about 34 weeks pregnant. We discussed the issues I'd had with my first bf'ing experience and worked out some plans for when my second baby was born (hand expressing colostrum, immediate checking for ties). As it was we didn't have any of the previous issues but it gave me a lot of confidence knowing that we had a plan and I had support if I needed it!

I just chatted with a friend about breastfeeding, so it's on my brain.

DS and I made it 18 months with no formula. I was stressed beyond belief between making sure he got enough and worrying about milk rotation and expiration, it hurt for the first 3 months, pumping at work was oh so "fun." I'm not sure it really helped strengthen our bond. We had some sweet moments, especially when he would fall asleep on me, but in general, I just remember it as a stressful time.

Yet, I'm gearing up to do it all over again with DD.

So.....how do I get psyched for something that caused so much stress the first time around? For those who already have a child or 2, did you breastfeed? Are you planning to do it again?
