I'm nursing in an underwire as I type! And it's the same one I wore while pregnant. For the first month or so pp I wore nothing but nursing tanks, but once I stabilize I switched back. Took longer with my first though.

Yeah... I'm going to go get my nursing bras at a shop where they will fit me, and then--get this!--they convert the bras to nursing bras FOR FREE!!

I pretty much only wear underwire bras, and never heard anything bad about them if they fit right.

This IS an expensive place, but hey, I like fancy bras more than I care about shoes or clothes.

I was told the same as @MegWag. I HATE bras that don't have an underwire (I know, I'm weird) so I just made sure all my bras fit well!

I wore underwire bras and I don't think they ever caused any problems. I have had a few clogs but they usually seem to happen if I wear my running bras for too long or if she feeds less and I don't pump.

@chopsuey119: 38 weeks + 5 days! I really doubt my boobs will get much bigger as well. They barely grew during pregnancy! hahaha

@MsMini: Yup I bought 2 soft nursing bras and 1 underwire nursing bra (I know!!! only bc we have 2 weddings this summer!) with my current chest/cup size.

I would wait and see what your chest does once your milk comes in. It might be worthwhile to buy at least 1 soft nursing bra (sports bra or sleep style) to wear during the first month, but once your milk supply/breast size stabilizes go and get properly fitted for a good nursing bra. Underwires, particularly tight fitting ones are clogged ducts and mastitis waiting to happen!

@regberadaisy: how far along are you again? I wore my bras til I had the baby. Bought 2 nursing bras and a few camis a few weeks before I had Lo. My boobs didn't get much larger than they already were.

@regberadaisy: Correction- Improperly fitted underwire bras cause clogged ducts. If they fit correctly they're fine. I think so many women wear the wrong size that it somehow just got translated to underwire = bad. I think if you go to a specialist shop and get fitted you will be a-ok.

@chopsuey119: haha I'm so cheap that many of my bras already lost their underwire! But I do plan on doing that too!
Most of my bras are getting VERY tight though. So I'm pondering if I should wait till my milk comes in pp to see if I should buy one chest size up now or stay at my pre-pregnancy chest size?

So I've read and been told time and time again that underwire bras cause clogged ducts if you plan to breastfeed.

ALL my bras are underwire bras. Do I need to go out and buy new bras??
