you should ask your doctor, but if it were me i would have continued breastfeeding. i took antibiotics for mastitis and continued breastfeeding, but i gave olive probiotics.

I've been on antibiotics while breastfeeding twice already. Mine were a 'breastfeeding compatatble' antibiotic, but I do know that he would get some too, and that's fine with me. Better than stopping breastfeeding, for me. Now, the antibiotics they gave to me were for a full week, or maybe two? No way I could have stopped breastfeeding for that long. DS had no reaction to the stuff.

Wow, i'm sorry you had to pump and dump that much! I am not sure how long those antibiotics stay in your system, but considering that I think amoxicillin is safe for breastfeeding anyways, I would just give it 24 hours or so.

for those of you who took antibiotics (i just finished taking amoxicillin), and are breastfeeding but started pumping and dumping, how long after you stopped taking it did you resume breastfeeding?

on a side note, very upset i dumped almost 400 oz of milk. =T my son had to take some for ear infection and he had diarrhea for a month! i stopped yesterday so i think i'm going to start breastfeeding again. i know most places say you can breastfeed, but i don't want my kids getting unnecessary antibiotics...
