@Yin - It seems like wheat and dairy are the common culprits! I'll try cutting out wheat as well to see if it helps, then try to identify if it's wheat or dairy that's causing the eczema.

I love stonyfield yogurt and miss it dearly. It does stink that their soy yogurt would have cow's milk protein in it - I wouldn't have even thought if that!

I also cut out wheat and dairy to help with my LO's eczema. I wasn't sure about dairy, but I knew that he was allergic to wheat (body would break out in a rash). At 12 months we had him tested for allergies, and sure enough he is allergic to cow's milk. Luckily he outgrew the wheat allergy, but he is allergic to peanuts and eggs in addition to cow's milk. I noticed that his eczema was coming back, and I found that his soy yogurt (stonyfield) has cow's milk protein in it. Ughh. I was so mad... why would they do that? 2 weeks later, and his eczema has cleared up once again.

@Mrs. Superhero - Glad to hear the elimination diet helped super baby with eczema! When you eliminated dairy, did you include everything dairy or just cows milk protein items? Also, did you include hidden ingredients too (like this list from Kelly Mom - http://www.kellymom.com/store/freehandouts/hidden-dairy01.pdf) or just the obvious milk/butter/yogurt/cheese? I've only done the obvious items and wondering how extensive I should be. Thanks for your help!

I cut wheat and dairy for a month because the baby was super rashy/eczema and it really worked for us. I added wheat back in with no ill effect so it must be the dairy. Pity, as I really miss eating dairy.

The skin condition was the only symptom she had as well. The diaper rash was gone within a few days and after a month her eczema was down to a few dryish patches.

I hope you figure it out!

I didn't avoid any foods but I eat everything in moderation (I have shellfish and seafood occasionally). However for the past week I've been on a cow's milk protein elimination diet because LO has what seems to be constant eczema outbreak on her face and I read cow's milk protein can be one of the more common causes. I'm not convinced if it is since LO doesn't show any other signs of this allergy - she's not fussy, excessively gassy, and sleeps well in general. Having said that, I figured I'd give this a shot to see if it alleviates her itchy face.

Are there any foods that you avoid while breastfeeding? This could be for either medical reasons, personal reason, or you just feel you shouldn't consume. I'm curious to see what everyone does and their reasoning behind it. Who knows - maybe it will help me figure out what might be irritating LO's skin!
